The 9800GTX is a refresh of the 8800GTX.
The relative performance differences between the cards remains, just the chip has been changed (from the G80 to G92) to bump the speed and processor efficiency up a bit. All the G92 cards will run cooler (and thus quieter) than their corresponding G80 brother.
All that means is that if you are in the market for a brand new card, and not looking to replace one of the older 8800 cards, the 9800GTX is still going to have the best price performance. But only for a single card solution. 2 GTs will stomp on it in SLI, as will the Radeon 3870X2. But both of those cost more than one 9800GTX.
