For anybody following this thread, if you are in the market for a card, make sure you have excellent case ventilation if you plan to buy an 8800GT, as the cooler for that card seems to be adequate only when given a good amount of airflow, and that is why the GTS card is a better buy, even though its pricier to purchase initially.
I've scratched the GT off of my list and have to decide on either an 8800GTS (G92) or a pair of 9600GT cards.
There isn't much going on at the high end for vid cards, at least until AMD comes up with a better card than what we are getting used to from them. Nvidia is sitting on its butt and still selling a 1.5 year old GTX card as its top dog (or a year old Ultra, altho they are rare compared to the GTX series) with no incentive to push the envelope when the cards are still being bought.

Unless you get a GT like mine, built by MSI, so it's a dual slotted cooler....wewt!

Tonight I accidentally found out that on my version of the GTS the fan stays at 60% until the temperature is somewhere above 78. I didn't load the latest drivers when I loaded the new version of Rivatuner so the fan was at the default setting. You can see from the data posted on the screen that the temp was 78 and the fan was still at 60%.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
