    Good sound card?

Well for some odd odd reason in CoD4 my sound (which I usually always in every game have on High Quality) is making my FPS drop to 20 and have a cap of 30, but when I turn the volume down and put it on low quality I get 100 average..... Anyone know a good, cheap sound card? As in around $100? Would be appreciated

    Best bet imo.

Another vote for the XtremeGamer. I bought mine from drunken_chef and its been running great. So much better than onboard, that even my tin ears picked up the difference. I finally got around to plugging it into my front audio/mic jacks this weekend so I now have a working mic !

I have the Xtreme Gamer too and it's a great card. However i can't help myself but to recommend this instead.

I also have the Extreme gamer and it works but updating the drivers always seems to be a real PITA with Creative. I would love to see another company smack them around a bit.

              +1

I'd settle for the Extreme Gamer also. If you really want to go all out, grab that extreme gamer and a pair of 5:1 surround-noise cancelling headphones with boom mic. You will be able to hear ALL the way across the map (when it's quiet) and the dead silence perk on COD4 is still heard very well.

You won't be disappointed with the Extreme Gamer, but I'd also like to see another company come in and stomp Creative to a bloody pulp.

Anybody look at the card i suggested? X-Fi quality without the awful driver support.

I did look at that card and I hope it becomes popular enough to give creative a run for it's money. I think this is that card that MAXPC talked about in one of their recent podcasts.

Today is when I will giving the "Pink Monster" to my stepdaughter. If the on board sounds is too crappy for her then maybe I can put the creative in there and give the Azuen a try.

I'd say go for it, but he did specify around $100....which that choice clearly does not qualify for If I were currently in the market, would definitely look at that over the Creative cards though, even if the price is a tad high imo...

I looked at it too, and I would like to test it out myself. The price is the determining factor alongside this:

                      Mostly good ratings. Pricey though.

i remember the old days when i had to figure out the pins on the X-fi xtreme music to connect the front panel ports. i still have a printout on that...

back then, you had to buy the platinum to get the front bay to connect audio by means other than that on the card itself, yay for Creative!

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
