Everything looks good. I'd probably double that memory, but it'll do just fine with what you have. I prefer at least 3 Gigs of memory, but that's just me. It is going to be a sweet machine.

I'm running XP- I thought rolling anything above 2GB is wasted space.....

Also- I need a recommendation on a non-sli board. I cant decide if I am going that way or not.

I may just 1x the 9800 seeing as it is likely wasted power.

Good choice on the case, just got one of those a little while ago and I love it. Very roomy and easy to route wires and cables as well. Plus the screwless bays for the most part work very well, other than maybe some of your cards.

I'd ditch the ASUS for another brand. I just had problems with my board because of the nvidia chipset and had to go get a different board. But that's just my personal experience.

I have 2 different Asus boards, my friend a 3rd completely different Asus boad and nary a problem ever. Personal preference and experience there I guess.

I like asus too. On the other hand, hammy, you don't HAVE to run SLI even though the motherboard supports it. My friend had a NV-7850GT video card burn out and a 400W psu. Replaced the PSU and only a single card in the sli mobo and it is running faster than it did with 2 cards except now it has 1000w psu instead of the 400w. You do not have to run sli and with your setup, I think a single card would perform fine and still allow for an upgrade if a future game needed the sli.

I've had a few sideboard discussions and I have come up with a few changes.

Per a pal at work + IRC Mikes suggestion, I'm swapping out drive #2 to a 500 GB or larger 7500 RPM. I may even go Terabyte, being that I will stream content (such as movies and TV via HULU and ABC) to the television from time to time. (I just got one of the new 120HZ HD's and the quality is PHENOMENAL)

I figure the Tera byte drive is where I will store content.

Drive #1 will be a 10k RPM, however, I'm going to go smaller as this will be the active app and OS drive.

Also, I'm looking into the second suggestion.
Here's something a little thinking came up with:

I replace my video card once a year, maybe twice if the software demands it.
The vid card technology is accelerating thanks to quad core technology- so in likelihood, the card I chose will be out of date by December.
The board technology will also be out of date in December, if all this happens.

SO- buy one card, see what happens next. The worst thing that will happen is that the pace of change is slower than I expect, but the cost of my primary card goes down, making the second card for my SLI rig cheaper.

My wife, of all people, mentioned that with all of this - the monitor I have is going to have to be replaced. God I love her.
Surprisingly, she said that if I do this, I need to get a large monitor so that I can get full appreciation of the graphical appeal. (cant argue with that

)

Anyone have any suggestions?

holy crap- thats like a lesson in the highs and lows of monitors.

$649 versus $1499.

I ran down to IT and I saw both of these monitors in play.
You get what you pay for in the Gateway, the Dell still is a quality monitor despite being a 2 year old run.

Hammy, that's a new model Dell 24" Widescreen. Honestly didn't see much difference between the old Ultrasharp 24" Widescreen and the new one that I posted the link to, cept the old one was running at about $999 I think. Which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me... Honestly I'd probably go with the 24" myself unless you have the money to throw around and want a huge amount of realestate for computer uses. Or if you're going with something smaller I'd probably still stick with the Dells.

EDIT again: I stand corrected. Apparently the 24" is sorta new, lol. And the $999 I was looking at is a 27" widescreen Ultrasharp monitor.

There is also a regular 24" widescreen that is not the Ultrasharp for $379, but I'd stick with the Ultrasharp personally.

Spec looks good. The only things i would change is the cooler and the PSU. If i were to be spending that much i'd want to get more performance than i could by spending 1/2 of that and grabbing a AC7 Pro.

Thermaltake PSU's are OK. I would never put one into a serious machine though. Corsair, Seasonic are good. And you don't need them many watts either.... unless your planning on adding say 20+ HDD's.

Yeah- that goes back to an earlier post I think.
The wattage question bugs me because if you dont have a good supply you can bug your vid card into oblivion forever.

What do you recommend in size of Watts then?
The thermaltake was a random grab, and I thought I could guarantee it would fit in the case if I did like for like supplier. So what do you reccomend then>?

PC Power&Cooling make kickass PSUs. Single rail with more than enough amperage on it. The one I got has many more than enough connectors without splitting any of them too. Fits quite nicely in to the case too. Actually, pretty much any powersupply you get should fit the case easily Hammy, speaking from installing all my stuff in mine

Unless you're running a lot of peripherals you oughta be able to get by with 600W easily, or you could use one of the PSU calculators in the hardware guide at the top of this forum.

PCP&C do make great power supplies but they're quite expensive. Well at least over here they are. Around 500W should do you just fine. Might aswell recommend mine.
