Ohh, the Vista haters are out in force !! I dunno ... you sit your butt in my chair and use my rig and see if you can complain about Vista without having used it. I think it completely depends on your setup, and I guarantee you won't have much to complain about, other than seeing the RAM widget spiking upwards of 750+ megs when you push the system.

I've even got my Ultimate 64 going, and there's just no lag whatsoever when I use it. Granted, I just got it going a week ago, but my specialty is tweaking a rig, and I can squeeze a good bit out of it and make you think Vista isn't all that bad after all.

The debate will never end, and some day XP will be replaced. If that's not with Vista, thats fine too, but you guys must realize every new OS is crucified for a while by users who can't figure out why it does what it does. I was firmly in the Win2000 camp and laughing at XP converts and Win98 hanger-ons, with no need whatsoever to upgrade until a game FORCED me to upgrade to XP to play it !!

Darth , fresh install from a clean drive, then slap the screwy one in and transfer over the data. You have my condolences on your Vista loss.

          A-MEN!

My rig runs circles around many XP machines that have over 2k invested.

He may have some trouble copying over files if it is vista ultimate. It may not let him access the files.

I did not poopoo 2k or XP when they first came out. I was working in support at that time and actually loved them.

I don't like Vista as for the average user it offers nothing more over XP. XP was a breakthrough over 98.

Juneau hits the nail on the head with his comment - its a simple as that. If Vista offered ANYTHING compelling to recommend it, then we could use that. But .. it doesn't !
I scored three free copies of it so far, and I would say that I wouldn't be happy paying $250 for it. But you get it for free and you don't have any reason to gripe about it.

Well, from what I've seen through my doors, trojan and spyware infections are not NEARLY as much of a threat (currently) as they were and still are with my XP customers. Same infection and hijacking of the pc is not nearly as injected into the root of the operating system as the XP machines. Nine times out of ten a restore function will cure it whereas XP won't.

I guess my point of view is from a different aspect than the regular gamer/email/internet user.

I think it also depends on what your doing. In the past 2 years the only spyware i've removed from my PC has been a few cookies.

I'm not the typical user, yet XP does everything i need it to.

The only thing that Vista brought to the table with me was the Aero look. But who really needs this?

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
