I don't do much media stuff but would there be a way around this. Are there other application that would allow you to do this?

First, yes I believe other software would work around this.
Second, I am highly disappointed in MS for this, although it doesn't surprise me!
Third, I thinnk we should start something here, an online petition, something to pressure MS to create a patch that removes the filter.

Several alternatives available, but if you have MCE to start with, you are sorta screwed. I've put my HTPC aside for the time being, as I can't figure out how to get it to work with my sat. dish, but at some point it seems like the consumer will be expected to pay to record even broadcast TV the way things are going.

Not with mythtv. You'll allways be able to time shift and skip commercials with it. However theres a cost ...it is a PITA to install

Anyone running KnoppMyth ?? Its easy to get up and running, but if you have to do any manual configuring .... like mapes said.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
