    What do you think...

Last PC I built was a dual Xeon back in 2005/06 and it lasted me a while. I gave it to my parents last year to use as a server, so I've been stuck with a Dell laptop for a while now. Not wanting to build another (since I'm so behind on what is acceptable or not) and not having room for a desk in my apartment I decided to order from Alienware:

    17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology

Dual 512MB NVIDIA? GeForce? Go 8700M GT SLI Enabled

    Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz (6MB Cache 800MHz FSB)

    4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz (2 x 2048MB)

Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1

    Single Drive Configuration - 120GB 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection

8x Dual Layer Burner (DVD RW, CD-RW)

Hopefully this set-up will last me a while otherwise I'm going to be sore after spending all that mint on it

I bet that set you back a bit! The only thing i would say is missing from it being amazing is a blu ray drive. But that's just being picky.

It all looks good I would also make sure you extend the warranty for as long as you plan on using it. It isn't cheap but it will pay for itself. So far I have gotten a MB, Powerbrick, a new screen and a new video card just last week. Its well worth the $300.00 it cost back when I bought it.

You have an alienware too Duke? How is the company when it comes to repairs and upgrades/replacements? I got the 3 year warranty as well knowing that upgrades will be needed as well as the occasional "oops!"

Juneau, I was actually thinking of adding a blu-ray player but adding one wouldve pushed my gaming budget beyond its limit The PS3 is enough for now

My experience with AW SUCKED! They were Terrible. That was all before Dell bought them so I don't know how they will do now. The XPS service I have gotten from Dell was top notch. Read the return policy very closely as well as the warranty service. Get the at home service because if you have to send it in you will be at their mercy.

The tech guy was here just the other day replacing my video card and he told me that Dell was not going to be doing laptops gaming systems anymore and sell the only through AW but I have had no time to look anything up officially.

You know the more I think about it I would stay from the 8700s if you can. I here they never performed that well. Now if you are getting a good deal for it the I would say OK but if you are dropping top$ down then I would settle for nothing less then the 8800m.

Here is my experience as far as gaming laptops goes take it with a grain of salt. A 3000 to 4000 rig will play games for about three years. The end of that period you will have to turn the settings down. A 1200 machine will probably last a year for gaming so the per year cost is anywhere from 1000 to 1200. its about the same. This has been me experience over the last 7 years and I have used 3 laptops for gaming so far, so I have limited data but it seems to be true as I look at whats out there. Darth Nevus just bought a Gatway that seems to doing alright maybe he will chime in.

I just looked at Darth's laptop now and it down $150 from when he bought it.

I promise you, you will not find better for this price !!

Thats under $1,200 for a GAMER laptop with a dual core 8800GTS setup. I am not a laptop guy, but this makes me pause and think about it at that price.

About the only thing that would worry me about this, is the 1.6ghz proc, but that can be upgraded. Other then that I would love to have that laptop, wish that deal had been last year. I'll be sending that link to a guy at work who's looking at getting a gaming laptop.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
