The temps for grpahics card vary from model to model. As long as you're not pushing 90c too often most cards will be fine.

well if you have an 8800 gts (g92) you should look at fan speed. iv found there the auto speed control keeps the fan to low to properly cool the card so i just go manual set it to 50% and it never reaches 70c even if im playing all day long. Dont let the card get above 70c or you will notice it actually slowing down or some games will just crash to desktop.

Well from what ive read most if not all the g92 8800 cards idle at about 30% fan and it keeps them in the high 50's but they dont rev up enough as temps increase so its easier to just manually set them to 50-55% and even at that speed you never hear them speed up atleast for me.
Card im using...
I will buy another 8800 gts soon as price drops a lil more and ill see what they can do in sli. Maybe in another 4-7 months ill buy a new mobo/cpu and i can really see what these cards can do since my 4800+ x2 bottle necks about 10-15% of there performance.

i wouldnt be so quick to throw the 9600 out the window... just because its $140 and has a cruddy predessor (8600). its an excellent card for a superb price. I've seen them in action in SLI ... can max out crysis Dx 9 with around ~40 fps.
well .. these were the Asus cards OC'ed with 512 ram, but they were still ~$140.
oh wait... budget isnt a problem, nevermind !

I'm running a single xfx 8600GT XXX factory overclocked model atm. Does fine in cod4, I get like 125fps with the default cap off, running around in smoke though it drops to about 55ish. heats up to about 70-75c and thats when I'm stressing it w/ all graphics and stuff on highest setting. I normally just play with default settings, despite shadows/shader/spec mapping. It heats up to about 65c if my rooms cold, during the day though, it runs alittle hotter.
It's not a 8800, but its still pretty good for the money.
