    Does VGA support high def?

Guys me and my dad are trying to do the whole blu-ray/hd-dvd disk computer for our high def TV, and in some guide to do this, it basically said that if you used a DVI to VGA connector it would reduce the quality and it would not be HD anymore. I searched some more on this and found

    Code:
VGA supports high resolutions. Your HDTV is still playing catch up to the VGA resolution capabilities. So stick to the VGA if everything is looking sharp and clear. VGA can support higher resolutions then 1080p (1920x1080) which is the highest resolutions HDTV set you can buy. So VGA will live on in the future if your friend chooses to upgrade his TV set to a new 1080P set.
    Thats basically saying the opposite.

    Which is true??

By the way I'm asking this because our HDTV only has VGA input and not DVI

Yes it does. However there is no HDCP enabled on non digital ports therefore you can run into problems. This can be worked around with a simple app called Slysoft AnydvdHD. HDCP is so much of a problem (due to holywood going overboard) that even i have HDCP problems sometimes. I'm using DVI > HDMI with a HDCP GFX card and TV.

DVI > VGA is a bad idea. No point in going digital to analogue. Best bet is to go DVI > HDMI.

The gains aren't really that great. But it helps eliminate interference etc.

Personally best bet is skipping on HDMI (and stupid DRM) and use componet

None that can't be overcome with AnydvdHD. Plus, doesn't HD material downscale when not running through a non-digital link? I'd still go hdmi tbh.

The main problem is that some TV's, even though they're HDCP can act like they aren't.

AnyDvdHd of course costs 80 more dollars on top of the powerdvd software which I also need to upgrade in order to use it properly for 90 dollars. It seems to me that I could save money by going component

HDCP is essentially copy protection, and is only carried over digital signals that are essentially unchanged from the source media (lossless). Since component is analog (lossy degradation of the signal occurs), there is no protection scheme in place because you can't make perfect copies of the content from the output.

Not that there aren't ways of defeating HDCP, but those are all illegal thanks to everyone's friend, the DMCA.
