    Sata CDROM ??

Any advantage to a SATA CDROM drive over an IDE CD/DVD Drive???

    #2
Quicker connection. No ugly IDE cables. No need to install jmicron drivers on your motherboard.

This is why i went for a sata drive.

Did I need those jmicron SATA Drivers????

I went ahead and installed all the Drivers off the MB Diskette.... I had to instal the LAN and sound Drivers...

And is there any advantage to a separate soundcard, or just use the built in sound card on the MB ??

You only need the Jmicron drivers for IDE and eSata.

You might want to check the MOBO Manufacturer's website for updates to all of the drivers you installed.

            +1

I didn't use any from the drivers disc that came with the board.

You should have a new bios. Or at least close to the latest. If it doesn't cause any problems i say leave it alone.

If you have Realtek onboard audio, it would probably be worth it to get offboard sound. I heard their EAX support blows. Personally, I think it is worth it to get offboard. My X-Fi sounds awesome!

The realtek audio is actually really good now. It's about time it closed in on onboard solutions.

Juneau, I assume you meant discrete cards, there .. but knowing how bad Realtek was, maybe you were correct in your actual statement !

PS - I always go add-in card if I can. It offers more flexibility, and onboard is for Granny's PC, not my gaming PC.

A proper sound card is awlays better. But realtek onboard is actually quite good now. I use the onboard for my HTPC.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
