All, I don't know if you play with Linux, but I have a friend who just has the worst problem of getting trojans, etc, so I loaded her up Ubuntu and have been very impressed with it's functionality.
I installed it on a 2 or 3 yr old Dell laptop with no problems and even picked up a Dynex WLAN PCIMCIA card and it worked right off the bat.
It had been a few versions since I tried this OS in a VPC 2007 setup just to try it and they have done a lot of work to it.
I would recommend this OS for a novice as long as they are willing to get use to something new and over come the learning curve of a new OS.
