    Ubuntu 8.04.1

All, I don't know if you play with Linux, but I have a friend who just has the worst problem of getting trojans, etc, so I loaded her up Ubuntu and have been very impressed with it's functionality.

I installed it on a 2 or 3 yr old Dell laptop with no problems and even picked up a Dynex WLAN PCIMCIA card and it worked right off the bat.

It had been a few versions since I tried this OS in a VPC 2007 setup just to try it and they have done a lot of work to it.

I would recommend this OS for a novice as long as they are willing to get use to something new and over come the learning curve of a new OS.

What major changes have occurred? I've thought about loading it up onto my old sony vaio laptop, but if it won't take off and run with the wireless hardware already in it, then it won't be worth it as I have it running several BOINC files for the next few days and would prefer to keep that program running for a long time without having to hardwire it to the network. i've also thought about running that laptop as a small file server for personal use, but again if ubuntu won't preform that easily as well on an already established windows network then it won't be worth the trouble.

I've actually used Ubuntu 64 bit Server as a base install for 10 vmware host boxes last week. I was impressed with the install. It didn't install erroneous crap like Fedora or SUSE. However at heart I will remain a Debian/FreeBSD person.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
