Let Microsoft Update NIC--then no go.

My Vista64 Premium showed there were new updates available, including one for my onboard NIC. I downloaded, then upon restarting machine, I was asked to insert the disk that came with my hardware--I clicked the tab saying I didn't have the disk--Installation continued--and now my onboard NIC worketh no more I am officially pissed at Microsoft I've tried reinstalling from my original disk (that I eventually found) and downloaded the latest available drivers from Foxconn (maker of my MoBo)--I am debating formatting disk and starting all over. Please let me know if there is a better option--and how to achieve it.

Do you have the option to roll back the driver ? That's always a handy feature that has saved me a few times.

      +1

Did you click 'no' even though you have a disc? It would be strange not to have your motherboards driver disc.

Nope, I wish I could but that option didn't show as available.

I didn't have the disc at time of update, but found it later.

I think I'll just go ahead and wipe the drive--been wantin to get rid of the XP partition on it anyhow and make the whole thing Vista 64.

I appreciate the help though guys

Lesson learned--If it ain't broke, don't let MS update it.

Just uninstall the driver and reload it from the disc.

Thanks Juneau, but I tried that one too. It was very strange. The driver that came with the mobo wouldn't work anymore and I even downloaded the newest driver from foxconn--also didn't work But the wierdest thing above all, is that after reformatting the drive--those drivers still wouldn't work. I ended up going to control panel, install new hardware, chose network card, and installed the resident driver from Microsoft. For some reason the driver for a discrete card worked for my onboard nic. Oh well it works.

Oh and I'm going to install XP on a separate HD and do a dual boot.

Done any BIOS upgrades recently or anything? Pretty sure Foxconn released some updates to make something or another compatible with Linux distro's a few weeks back, coulda had some kind of issue there.

Yeah, updated to P05 from P0?. That's the only difference between now and original install. All is fine now, except I suck a little worse at DoDs

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
