Have you tried yelling at it and then slapping it? It worked for my old computer

The CPU and all the other fans are running fine. I had it in safe mode today and ran AVG, SpyBot and AdAware and it all came up clean and the computer stayed on the whole time. About 4 hrs. So I restarted it, logged on, went to surf the net and it shut off again.

Hubby took it apart to clean the heat sink and he replaced the thermo paste. If it don't work, he's going to go ahead and reformat.
So go on, go on be your own, go on be your own star!

We got an error message when he turned it on.

You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused windows to stop unexpectedly. This type of error is referred to as a stop error. A stop error requires you to restart your computer
The solutions were, update drivers and manually slow down video acceleration's. Hubby got that same message last night and he had already updated the drivers and so he did the 2nd half.

Maybe you should look at the voltages in BIOS under PC Health, especially at the 12V bus. If it's dropping down too low, I would think that would cause problems with your video--freezing, etc..
If it is dropping too low, I would blame the power supply, but could also be the video card or something else drawing too much current and pulling down the P/S.

I know it's annoying but if your give us the complete first line (whith all of the hex numbers) it'lll make debugging alot easier(maybe)

TY tons guys for all of your help.

When he took it all apart, he redid the thermo paste.. He also found a skittle that had melted a tad to the mobo that I blame on my 7 yro.

Since the last restart it's stayed on. He even played SP COD4 and the system didn't get hotter then 122.

If we get the message again then I'll post it and when hubby gets back from town, I'll have him check the Bios to see what it says there.

LOL Good find. I thought it was hardware related but i wouldn't of thought of candy getting there. When I get done with this trip and get home I will add the "No candy in the computer" rule to the list.

Ouch to the Skittle, never would have thought of something like that. Was actually going to come back and suggest putting new thermal paste down.

Bet it was pulling down the 12V P/S

Darn skittles, first they start attracting them pesky aliens, now they're infecting mobo's

Well, I'm still having a few problems. It is doing the random freezing and shutting off. Not nearly as bad but enough to make me worry. I'm going to do a reformat here in a few minutes and cross my fingers that it does the trick.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
