Tried pulling one stick and leaving the other in, then repeating with the second? Unless you got some weird static discharge or something that hit your DIMMs, or the DIMMs themselves have gone bad for some reason, I wouldn't think it would be both sticks of RAM going at once. Although it is possible...

We did try that but the computer kept shutting off, same thing w/ both sticks.

Good news though, it's up and running. I'm on it now Keep your fingers crossed. Hubby managed to get the windows disc to take off and he reformatted it again. We had some issues trying to get the network and audio drivers but it turned out that they were turned off in the bios.

As for now, I'm going to install COD4 and see what happens

Could be a slight chance that you have a loose connection (high impedance) at the socket or in the power strip feeding the P/S of the comp. Try moving the comp to another outlet or run an extension over to the comp and try that. Far-fetched, but who knows.

Hum.. kept shuting on and off... and a re-install of windows seems to have fixed it? Do you hear any strange nosies from the Harddrive(s)? Are the connections to the harddrive(s) good and secure? What about the wires running from the restart and power switch to the MoBo... are those in good as well?

When I was playing COD4, I started getting a lot of lag. For example if I was on Vent at the same time, Vent would lag and I could not understand the other people. Sometimes when loading the game I would time out. It turned out to be my hardrive starting to fail.

Hush about the hard drive.. lol.. I just replaced it about 2 months ago if that.

Everything is working ok for now. When I was playing COD4 last night, it restarted but my cat was playing around the back of it. It could of been her stepping on something.

I haven't done much on it today, just surfed the web but it's at least stayed on.

I just read this thread and if your computer starts to act up again, I'm going to blame a power surge on your problems.

I had one a few years ago, and I was there to witness it is the only reason I knew it happend. I hadnt used a power strip (doesnt matter anyways, because most people buy cheap ones without realizing that a majority of them dont offer adequate protection-- DONT GO CHEAP)

First I quirks, then problems, then failure to post on cold boot.
I replaced the video card. Fine for a few day- then problems.
In the end I replaced the entire rig thanks to that one moment.

ALWAYS make sure you have a MAJOR BRAND power strip / surge protector in place.
And like Hawkeye said- keep the fan ports clear on your Power Supply, dust can cause your PS to arc or surge or slog- and voltage phasing damages components within your PC.

That would make a lot of sense. I do have a really good power strip but considering we get a lot of power surge's, you just never know. I will let my husband know.

                      Thanks again for everyone's help

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
