COD4 Crash Issue

Hey all,
I dl-ed COD4 yesterday off steam and had some trouble running it. The multiplayer portion would repeatedly crash.

From some google searches, I found out that it crashes if you don't have a mic plugged in (I don't have one yet) so I plugged in a pair of headphones into the mic jack and that seemed to fix it. Is there some other workaround that I might not know about?

(I'm running Vista32 so I figure thats part of the problem)

Try running it on 64-bit lol

But you should update all your drivers, that seems to solve the problem for many of my friends. I mean even having an out-dated mouse driver might cause crashes for some reason, for some unlucky players like me and you.

Yeah, I really should have gotten 64-bit to begin with Vista 32 runs ok, some annoying quirks, but it is prettier than XP....and has DX10. Next comp I'll give AMD a try. I'm a radeon fan anyways..

I'll do a mass driver update this weekend and order a mic...that should solve it (need a mic anyway).

So it's prettier and has a worthless update from DX9. Not worth the money imo.

That's quite a strange problem though. What happens if you mute your mic in the windows audio settings?
