    Bioshock Crash

Since reformatting my hard drive after my NIC fiasco, I can't get Bioshock to start anymore. The Bioshock emblem comes up, then all goes to a black screen---until I Ctrl+Alt+Del. Shut down Win Defender and Firewall--still no go. Downloaded all Win Vista 64 updates, but didn't help. Has anyone run into this? Help me please.

    Running Vista 64Bit Home Prem., 8800GT, Foxconn MoBo, AMD 6400 X2, 4 Gig OCZ DDR2 800

Sounds like video driver issues to me. Have you made sure you have the newest drivers, and scrubbed the old ones out with a driver cleaner? If you have the newest, try reverting back to the last release before them. And of course, be sure you're downloading them from Nvidia's site, not the manufacturer.

The order you install your drivers is important too Ive noticed recently.

      ALSO-

If you have any onboard graphics, make sure that is off, nuked, etc.

Thanks guys, I have the latest drivers from Nvidia, but will try rolling back my Vid Driver and check to make sure onboard is disabled.

          Remember. Latest isn't always greatest.

Preachin to the choir my friend. After the fiasco with my network card update, that lesson was learned the hard way.

But I did find a thread on the 2K forums that lead me to a solution. I had to force Bioshock to run in compatibility mode with DirectX 9. This is done by right-clicking the Bioshock icon, going to the Compatibility tab under Properties, check the box for "Run in Compatibility Mode" (and mine is set for Windows XP (Service Pack 2)), then go to the Shortcut tab and in the box for Target add " -dx9" to the end of the target (make sure to add the space before the dash), click Apply and wallah Only problem is, I can't run Bioshock with DirectX 10 this way Oh well, It still looks pretty sweet and is lots of fun

Well, glad you're up and running with it in any case. Sucks that you can't run it in DX10 though.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
