Windows Mobile use on a smartphone

I just bought a Verizon XV6800 smart phone because in November I will be transfered to ORD and instead of driving to work I'll need to commute on aircraft. My hope was to be able to get online quickly and grab some flight information using my current subscription to Boingo wireless. I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep it or not so and my 30 day period is running out so I have a few questions.

This device seems slow and because I'm not used to typing on it it takes awhile to log on. Is this something you get used to?

What other applications do you find handy?

For these forums I can read posts but there doesn't seem to be a way start a new one. Am I missing something?

I had a smartphone with Windows Mobile on it for a past job. It had a full qwerty keyboard once you slid the top open, as well as just the numpad on the front of it, so that wasn't bad. Not sure wha thte XV6800 has. I know I'm still not good at typing out text messages on my current phone, hehe.

I had a nice app that since I was traveling, I could set the location and it would give me the forecast, linked right on the main screen so I didn't have to bother running around to various websites and typing stuff in. I think you could set up to 5 different locations at once.

I wasn't real fond of how the Windows Mobile connections were managed, but not sure you'd do any better with any other mobile OS.

Far as the posting, if the forums isn't optimized for a mobile browser, chances are that it's not available. I used to check my gmail account on my phone, and I could see messages, but no images, couldn't reply, and couldn't create new emails.

Syncing with the Exchange server for work email worked quite well though.

I guess it boils down to if the benefits outweigh the problems for you

I have an AT&T Blackjack II with 3G. I have a full qwerty keyboard and it is not slow. It use Windows Mobile OS. I use Word all the time and email. I love how I can sync it with any of my computers.

I'd recommend trying Opera Mobile (not Opera Mini, that's the slimmed-down version for Java phones). It renders pages the way a desktop would, which means you'll have to do more scrolling and zooming to browse the net, but the "full internet" is available. It doesn't warp and mix things up like Internet Explorer does.

Another browser, which is my personal favourite, is Skyfire. Like Opera Mobile, it displays full websites, but it has decent Flash and improved Javascript built in to it, as well as being slightly faster than Opera. Unfortunately, it's still in beta, and getting in can be a little tricky. I'd say sign up and hope for the best though, since it's currently free and amazingly versatile. Link:

        Welcome to Skyfire!

Here's a good site that I use quite often that is loaded with freeware Pocket PC applications: Freeware for Pocket PC. Free Windows Mobile Pocket PC / PPC Downloads for WM5 or WM6 PocketPC.
There's games, extra contact managers, etc. It's worth a look. (Check out Kevtris for a good, free Tetris clone.)

I'll have to check out those aps later on. Maybe I can find one that will make me like this phone a bit more.

I'm drooling over the Nokia E90. A friend of mine works for Nokia ( which gives out phones to they're employee's) He has one and doesn't like it. I finally convinced him to give it to me and now he can't find it. BTW this is the E90

That is a sweet looking phone. I love how it flips open for the big screen and still has the buttons on the top for dialing.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
