    need mic help!

ok im gonna try to make this as least confusing as possible when i explain my epic fail.

i bought this computer about 2 months ago and it came with vista. since the computer had 2 separate 320gb hard drives i decided to leave vista on drive c and put xp sp2 on the other hd. when i installed xp sp2 it whipped out a crowbar and beat the heck out of my master boot log. so now i still have vista on drive c but i cannot boot it and am forced to use xp sp2. when i first put xp sp2 on it had no drivers so i had to install all of them and now everything seems to work except my mic. according to hp my sound card is "high def. audio" and i have the latest xp ver. realtek high def. audio driver and the latest directx. so ifanyone has any ideas or suggestions i would be very greatful since its a burden to have to type in game lol.

    thanks,
    General Khazard

Make sure the mic is not muted.

Try removing the sound card drivers and reinstalling them. Be sure that all inputs are set to the correct "card" in the sound and audio settings in the control panel. Be sure you're plugging the mic in to the correct port If all else fails you could always be a USB headset, set the outputs to the sound card if you want to use your speakers, and the inputs to the headset. I think there were some issues going aroudn with Realtek if that's the chipset for your audio, can't remember for sure if it was mic related though. As I said, I'd be sure that you have the newest version of the drivers for it.

I found that 100% of my mic problems went away since I bought a USB Headset + microphone. It's a 29.99 Logitech.

I think that the jack never seats properly and over time, it just flakes out and the headsets just start giving feedback and etc.

I had something similar for a long time. when I talked I'd get feedback unless I was touching the case and acting as a ground....kinda odd really.

Make sure that the game is using the Windows settings, or manually set your sound input in Steam and/or DoD.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
