Hmmm I'm not so up on the hardware stuff anymore. Would love to hear what folks have to say. Primary purpose would web surfing then games then open office. I don't care about burning DVD's I have a machine that can do that. I would like it to have 1GB ethernet, 802.11 a/b/g, bluetooth, and possibly and IR port and maybe an sd card slot. HDMI would be nice but not necessary. I'm assuming 2GB RAM and some variant of Vista.

Actually just wtf are the actual diff's in all of the Vista variants?

You could pick up a XPS 1530 for under 1K. There are bunch of these at the Dell outlet for a bit less then the one I linked to.

I haven't had time to look into the performance of the different mobile video options so I'm not sure how it would work with future games.
