    First Intel 6 core chip

Intel unveils 6-core chip, as Unisys touts 96 cores | Business Tech - CNET News

Only for high end servers until some puts together a motherboard for a gaming rig that will run it, but still, sweet! Also, it's 6 cores on one piece of silicon, the first Intel chip that runs more than 2 cores on one piece of silicon with some kind of connection for more than 2 cores.

There's dual quad core PC motherboards out there. Look up Intel Skulltrail. This is actually a single chip with 6 cores in it.

No this is not the type of multi-core CPU intel and AMD design so you can't compare them. The PS3 is a IBM CPU based on a Cell processor arch. It's a totally different animal.

Also, the Cell BE cpu has nine processing elements, but one of them is disabled on the PS3

I don't have a good answer on that one yet. I need to do some more ready the techs on it. I believe this is the one that doesn't measure speed by a GHz rating of clock cycles but in operations per second.

                Meh, who needs cores?

We need more software to take advantage of multi-cored CPUs

It's still mainly about the clock speed...

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
