Is this going to be like when you asked for game advice, and you just bought them all?

AMD phenom has 4mb cache? That's low right?

The cache is not a concern, Phantom. Its whether or not Ghost wants to get high FPS in games or whether he wants something that AMD provides (no, smartarses, the answer isn't low FPS in games ).
Thats why I am waiting for a reply from him before I suggest anything. The board is clearly one of the top boards for the AM2+ platform, so he's done his homework there.
The 9850 is about the best AMD has to offer currently.

AMD won't give you a nice gaming rig at the moment. Just because your bored doesn't mean you should ditch a very good rig for something nowhere near as powerful.

Can't say i've ever heard of boredom causing this before. Boredom normally results in 'i want to build another rig for random usage.'

If you are bored, you should grab an Asrock SATAII-939 board and swap a buncha parts around in it. Try this on for size:

AGP or PCIe (16x) slots - run either or BOTH (yes, it can be done).

DDR or DDRII RAM - the main board supports DDR.

S939 (yep, its dead) or AM2 - Bear with me on this one: Via an add-in riser card, the board supports a socket upgrade to AM2 and DDRII RAM as well.
I bought one in 2006 and its still running, and is by far my favorite oddball rig. I've had a single core Opteron 144 939 chip in there, but via the add-on card I am now up to an AM2 5000+ Black Edition stable at 3.2ghz.

As far as video, I've had everything from an old Nv 5900FX to its current Nv 7950GX2 card. Scores 9000 in 3dMark06, which isn't bad considering it is a 3+ year old board.

Note: I realize this isn't your overall goal for this build (I approve of your current parts list - the video card is going to make more of an impact on your raw numbers as well) but it was a very challenging but fun build. And its not quite done yet. I have a notion to drop my 8800GTS on there and run Vista on it, but its bulletproof running XP, so I hate to screw with a good thing.

only problem with this is that AMD still needs cash and a good customer base if you want them to continue to make CPU's that's aren't mobile chips... No AMD and intel doesn't have to lower prices or make newer chips as fast....

AMD is doing fine in the a lot of markets right now. The home user market is relatively tiny compared to say, mobile or servers. They'll never go away.

Both ATI and Nvidia are reported to be eleasing card refreshed in a few weeks (55nm parts of current cards that should offer more headroom). In ATI's case, they may possibly release the 4850x2, which is a monster of a card for a reasonable price.
I don't know if your build would include a vid card at this point, but its fair to say the most gains could be had by an upgrade to one of the newer cards, as most games are GPU limited these days, not CPU limited, making the Phenom seem like a logical choice for your build.
