Why do you feel the need to upgrade anything other than maybe the video card at this time? Just seems like a waste of money considering what you've got and what throttles games now. I would agree that boredom isn't the best reason to upgrade, especially since the 45nm die is likely to take control of the market and this AMD chip is 65nm. I was an ATI fan for a very long time until the 8800 series came out. It was such a better card that I got that one when I bought a year and a half ago, I'm now looking into Nvidia for my next upgrade as well, maybe next year, and Nvidia has held control for 2-3 years. My advice would be to buy the best technology, and not make decisions based off boredom.
It's almost like having a Denon receiver, which is one of the best brands, and deciding to buy something like JVC or Kenwood just because their latest model looks cool. Or even like just buying this year's Denon just because it's got 10 extra megahertz, which in the end doesn't mean anything because the rest of your equipment (e.g. software applications that are optimized for quad core, in your case) isn't ready for that. It's not something I would do.
