Nv to drop all but 6 partners

According to Fud. I normally take Fud's news with a pinch of salt, but there are rumblings this is true.

    6 To remain are,

    EVGA
    PC Partner (Zotac)
    ASUS
    MSI
    Palit
    XFX

Fudzilla - Nvidia to leave only six partners

Looks like Ati cards now might start to get better warranties under BFG.

Fud (and specifically Charlie) hate Nvidia with a passion for making them sign an NDA before previewing hardware, so they refuse to do that, and in turn spread some serious rumors.

I wouldn't say its a blatant BS call, but things are changing rapidly in the GPU industry, and this is all before Intel releases their card.

I'm a bit stunned at the Zotac brand included in there, but like I tell guys we assume if we haven't heard of it in the USA it is a non-entity. The world market buys up Gainward, Palit, Zotac and the now defunct Elsa (they were eVGA before eVGA made video cards) so don't assume they are small fish in a big pond.

They don't have the warranty to make them viable against BFG or eVGA, but ... wow ... seeing that BFG is NOT on that list ...

I'm surprised that BFG isn't on that list also. Time will tell if it's true or not.

Only BFG is missing. It appears that Nvidia, if this is true, could be downsizing to deal with the global economy.

Maybe there was some in fighting with BFG and that's why they got the axe.

BFG has always been a thorn in Nvidia's side due to their higher than the rest overclocks. When you advertise your brand as the best of the best, you need to back it up.
It wouldn't surprise me at all that Nvidia isn't very keen on running their cards at those ultra high clocks.

Okay- Let me share some things with you about the business side in technology around here (Nvidia is local here).

From 1995 - 2005 you saw businesses say "get as many partners as you can" and grow your business that way.

Over time, these relationships cost money as there is takes too much resources to keep them happy, keep them trained on the brand message, keep them in line and in compliance, and a myriad of other things that are necessary for an effective Partner Channel.

Today, most businesses in technology have 3 Majors and 10 Minors. Total of 13, where the majors usually have paid up front for the opportunity to be of the top 3 and it is usually a multi-year agreement.

I dont know if this is FUD or not, but quality has not been a strongpoint of Nvidia when going outside the brands mentioned as the exclusive partnership.

I have bought outside the circle, and I have been burned every time.
Cards that have the same performance level as the one below it, Cards that burn out over and over, etc. So to me, if it is true, it makes sense that they reduce the partners and focus on a smaller group. It will make their product quality go up and it will cost less for them to enforce standards of performance on that group.

It also meshes with this thread well: http://www.cainslair.org/showthread.php?t=8496

I kind of doubt that Nvidia would drop BFG tech... I mean, would you want your competitor getting ahold of one of the companies that you already have that makes your product with a lifetime warranty?

If any of the 'outsiders' make it, it'll be BFG. Say bye bye to the rest like Leadtek etc.
