Card in place and running very well. I spent 2 hours swapping power supplies last night, as my main rig's Fortron 600 did not have the necessary 8 pin power lead for the card, but the spare rig's OCZ 600 did !
I expected it to be an easy job, but with my pickiness about cable clutter, each PSU took 30 minutes to remove and an additional 30 to install in the other PC. Cable management is nice, but try and un-do it once !! UGH !!
First impressions: Reading every Newegg comment, everyone was stunned at the size of the card. I was actually expecting it to be bigger, if possible. My old 8800GTS card was HUGE, so the only difference was the GTX card was an inch longer.
So out went the 8800 and in went the GTX:
3Dmark06 scores went up from 11,250 to 16,500. Yea, the old G80 8800 core had truly shown its age, but honestly, it ran everything I threw at it.
I never toyed around with AA/AF before, so I've been maxing out the graphics sliders on all of my games. I actually got the new card to stutter when I maxed out Company of Heroes and set it for 16xQSAA and Ultra graphics details ! Yikes !! So that finishes off the quad core build that I started waaay back in mid June. The 280 should last me for a year and a half, or at least I am hoping it does.
