best way to view a computer screen on an LCD

    Hey folks

I've got an old IBM T41 that I want to leave hooked up to my entertainment complex for parties and what have you. It won't be on all of the time. How I want to use it is to use a web browser to connect to my in house picture server and music server (gallery2 and Ampache). Right now it has XP on it but, for this I don't care I'm OS agnostic. Currently I have a Logitech DiNovo bluetooth keyboard and mouse hooked up to it.

The problem.... So I have it plugged into a Sony 32 inch LCD. What is the best way to make objects readable from couch distance. I've been playing with accessibility options, font size, resolution and dpi settings. The problem is I get one aspect visible and then I open a web page and it's just to freaking huge.

    Any ideas?

So by now you've realized that the IBM has many more resolutions available than the fixed res. on the Sony. Do you know what the native resolution on the Sony is ? My 32" is some gawdawful oddball size like 1366x768 so it truly becomes an overscaling nightmare when you try and tweak it to make everything look OK.

Does it upscale only the browser font size or everything in the browser ? I remember the good old days when you could change a browsers font size but I don't even see that option where it was before in Firefox.

With my Samsung 720p TV like all 720P TV's iirc, the 1:1 resolution was 1360x768@60hz and everything was fine and dandy.

Juneau if I sit in front of it like a monitor then yeah it's fine. What I'm looking for is to make it into some type of web kiosk type thing that can be viewed from across the room.

WT I believe for most web browsers its ctrl+ to enlarge font and ctrl - to shrink.

Yep thats what it is. So what I want is to be able to use it as a computer only sitting 6 feet away. dot pitch adjustment seemed the best bet but you end up having to scroll all over webpages then.....

I'll have a look around for you Mapes. Think it's going to be quite hard though due to native resolutions and all.

Instead of tweaking the browser fonts, most browsers now support a better option of zooming, IE, Firefox, Chrome, etc. To do this try using the mouse and keyboard by holding the CTRL key and using the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.

Now we have had a lot of flooding in this area and there are still a lot of houses that have not been repaired. Must be the apocalypse.
