Hey Duke, yes it has been a long time. I'll be around more often now tho.

      Specs:

Pentium Dual Core Processor 2.0 GHZ
      320GB Hard Drive
      4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
      Integrated Intel Graphics Accelerator 3100
      Vista

I was told I could put in a PCI express card.

Any idea what exact motherboard you're using?

        edit: few more questions.

What resolution do you play at?
What PSU have you got? Rated wattage, 12V amps?

No idea what kind of motherboard it is.

Resolution, not the lowest, but not the best.

          Power, I think it's 300w.

If you grab CPU-Z and run it it'll tell you your motherboard make and model. 300W is going to be tough. Most card from the past 12-18months really need a 500W power supply with decent 12V amps.

Yeah not to mention you said it would accept a PCI card (you didn't say PCIe card)

PCI is old school hehe.... I doubt a PCI card would be much of an improvement over your onboard. Hopefully you meant your motherboard is PCIe compatible.

Yeah I believe most of the video cards produced within the last two years need at least one PCIe power connector (6-pin). If your mobo does accept PCIe you could try for an 8600GT or 9600GT

Actually ryan... he did state that his MoBo could accept a PCIe card... he just didn't phrase it exactly like that... he stated "I was told I could put in a PCI express card." In any case. Might I suggest trying to find a golder g82 core 8800gts? They are dependable cards that (IIRC) don't require as much power as their G92 bigger brothers. I'm currently using a BFG Tech 8800GTS 640mb card that runs WaW around 60-70fps.

PCI express is not the same as a full fledged PCIe, 16x bus.

PCI express is a revision of plain old PCI. still sits in the same card slot. Still inferior to the AGP slot. You might look inside for a brown slot, slightly offset from the white PCI slots. If so thats AGP. If not you are stuck with the PCI slot.

You're wrong there my friend. You are thinking of PCI-X. PCI Express and PCIe are the same thing. The e stands for express. However, you are right in one thing, just because he has PCIe doesn't mean he has a x16 graphics slot. He could have only x1 slots if he has onboard video.

Well, I was shopping at Circuit City and came across this card. It's a e-GeForce 8600 GT, Dx10, 1G DDR2, PCI-E for $50.00. The sticker said 229.00, but was marked down 50% off. I get to the register expecting to pay $115, and she said 53.74. Sweet huh?

Well, just did research on it, looks like I didnt get that big of a deal. Oh well, it's better than what I had.

229.00? I really hope it was never on sale for that price, even when it was first released.

                            Enjoy your new toy Ranger6.
