    Cain's Lair BF1 -- Let's Chat

OK guys, I see how Server Rental works for BF1. I had to buy the game to figure it out.

I've read, however, that last Wednesday EA/Dice STOPPED sending Quick match players to rented servers. Only official DICE servers now get quickmatch players. That coupled with the fact that you apparently need 20 players to start a game has made it very, very tough for small communities to have a busy server....

All that having been said, would you guys like for me to pop up a server this weekend to see how it does??

I would love to have a Cain's Lair server again. That said, I do not think it would be worth paying for a server that EA rents to you and yet gives you no support.

Thx Apache. I'm willing to give it a shot. You can rent a server for one day, or one week. Sadly, however, I suspect it will be hard to fill - but maybe not.

No kidding.... It may be 10, but even that is a big number with no Quick Match Players.

Sadly, CSS is looking better and better...

Apache?? You still willing to help with it? Or we can let the new wear off BF1 for a few more weeks...

                (just back from family time)

I agree that EA doesn't want us to rent a server.

Is there any good reason to rent a BF1 server now??

After reading that thread there doesn't seem to be a good reason to rent a server. If they don't put quick match people in then they are making it tougher. I have jumped into server with 6 people or so and they fill up rapidly, I wonder how many of those are quick match joins. well at least we gave it a thought.

My son just started a game called overwatch, that seems to be a pumped up version of TF2.

A few CLRs still play BF1, but CLR has no server.
For too long, EA banned server owners from having any control (as admins). Now, EA provides basic admin tools, but it's too late.

The only successful community server that I have seen busy has been AOD, many of them sit empty. EA ruined it, EA/Dice people will not be allowed into my bunker when the apocalypse comes.

What can I say. I wasnt this frustrated when I had 600+ ping trying to play from Iraq. It gets even worse when I realize the potential that this game had on PC. What a bunch of freakin losers at EA and Dice. I just for one minute would like to know who agreed to this stuff for the PC crowd. Dedicated servers has always been the backbone of any gaming community, no matter the game itself. It seems they listened to a bunch of whiney asshats who get kicked out of every server they play on because it's in their DNA to act like a trick at everything they do.

Anyway, off the soapbox for now. There is one server in particular that stays full almost all the time. I think the name is LEB. Run by some middle eastern guys here in the US. I stopped playing there for my own reasons. PM me if you want to know why. But back on topic. They run a combo server with a 200% bullet damage which basically puts it at HC damage but with every thing else in Normal mode. You got crosshairs, spotting and you can tell enemy from friendly unlik Dice servers where a lot of team killing goes on.

But the server stays full with those settings and everyone seems to be happy. My understanding now is that Procon is now working with the game. Havent confirmed that myself but Drisel informed me of it yesterday when we were playing.

I said all that to say this. Maybe with a few certain tweeks to the setting such as those you can have the best of HC and Normal mode. It seems to attract both crowds. I know I didnt play here for a couple of server choices because I aint that keen on Normal mode. And I know a lot of people who like HC. I also know a bunch that dont like HC because they like the mini map, spotting and stuff. I understand everyone is different. But the server I'm talking about seems to be satisfying both crowds.

I know that in times past. Having an HC server vs a Normal one alienated potential players for the game depending on which way you went.I know you cant please everyone. This cuts that out and beats the heck out of the Dice regular HC servers hands down. Even with the mini map and spotting and such.

This may be something to try if you can verify Procon working with the game. If the server was set up like that, I"d play it for sure. Dont know how others feel, but this game has so much potential to just let it go to waste. It really does. It's hard for me to play it by myself without friends and tolerate the idiocy of no admins. So when I play it at least I have friends I can team up with. I had just about quit playing it all together and was playing "Squad", until Drisel and Jed talked me down off the ledge concerning this game.

This is all personal opinion and does not reflect any ideas or policy from the management of Cains Lair. I'm not a very smart man, but I know what fun is. "Forest Gump voice"

                              Good post Cobalt!

                              Just my usual misc. commentary...
In the past, CLRs were generally evenly divided on preferring vanilla vs. HC. Years ago, we ran a BF game on HC and and it stayed busy. However, our last BF4 server was difficult to fill. The admin tools were limited and got progressively reduced to zero. We had no way to control the player experience on our own server. In that situation, BF4 was not a good environment for HC. Subsequently, EA eliminated admin controls for BF1 on day 1.

Currently, if you're routinely waiting 20 minutes for a slot to open on a good HC server, then a second, similar server might have a chance at success. However, I think the BF1 player population is dropping. Any new server would be launching into strong headwinds.

By the way, I don't think Procon is working on BF1. That would require EA running custom scripts on EA servers. I think the only tools allowed are ones from EA.
