Looks like EA is making life easier for server admins, snippet from the latest BF1 Patch notes.

MAJOR UPDATE: SERVERS
With the Winter Update we’re releasing some highly anticipated rent-a-server features. RSP admins will now be able to kick players from their server using the in-game UI, or swing a mighty ban hammer if someone is misbehaving. RSP admins will now also have prioritized access to their server.
On top of this, we’ve added the feature to vote for the next map after a match is over. Players on the server will get two options to vote for, and whichever alternative gets the most votes will be the next map. The options will be randomly selected from the server’s map rotation. This is done during the end of round screen, so no extra time between rounds has been added.

This complete redo of their server program is confusing to me. EA did everything possible to kill independent servers. They clearly wanted to own every aspect of membership and team play. Now, after eliminating clans & communities who might have been interested, EA introduces a few essential server features? Will they be shocked by the limited interest?

Well, good luck to them. I'll probably wait until BF5 to recheck where they've stuck their heads.

I accidentally joined a custom server this morning, I only realized it when I killed a teammate, but I did finish the round and I like the map vote option, I wish it were on the public servers.
