BF2142 shipped with 10 maps, there were about 5 in the expansion pack and there were another 4 or so that were free later on. Pretty fair.
If BF3 starts with the same number of maps in the vanilla version then I will be happy. If it only has around 6 and the expansion takes it up to around 10 then I will feel like they are screwing with us.
Talking about the first expansion pack a full 6 months before the game is supposed to release is pretty shady though.
Bottom line: I already put down my $5 in case Cain wants to run the extra maps on day 1.

My personal guess is that it would take an act of God or an act of enormous stupidity on behalf of DICE for Cain NOT to want to run as much as he can on Day 1.
