EA Confirms No Battlefield 3 on Steam

EA offers games, including Battlefield 3, to all major digital download sites. In doing so, our goal is to not only reach the widest possible global audience with our games, but also to provide ongoing customer support, patches and great new content. We are intent on providing Battlefield 3 players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play the game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with consumers.

For more on our policy to offer games to any major third party download service, please read here: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7372195.page

Gamers can pre-order Battlefield 3 at Origin.com as well as over 100 digital retailers worldwide. EA offers games to all major download services. Unfortunately, Steam has adopted a set of restrictive terms of service which limit how developers interact with customers to deliver patches and other downloadable content. No other download service has adopted these practices.

We are intent on providing Battlefield 3 players with the best possible experience no matter where they purchase or play their game, and are happy to partner with any download service that does not restrict our ability to connect directly with our consumers. We hope to work out an agreement where Steam can carry Battlefield 3; meanwhile, gamers can pick from the more than 100 digital retailers listed at Battlefield 3 Digital Retailer, or go to http://www.origin.com.

If steam doesn't ride this game they will lose a lot of money. They better kiss EA's ass before going bust.

I'm still not using Origin, I'll pick up a couple of copies at BB or NewEgg.

To log-in to the game you will have to use Origin. I'm not really sure if this is a yes for me but I'll see.

This. I will only, very grudgingly, use Origin because I would bet real money right now that they will FORCE us to use Origin to log in and actually play. I will NOT give them money for Origin.

This, by the way, is utter spin job:

However, when a download service forbids publishers from contacting players with patches, new levels, items and other services – it disrupts our ability to provide the ongoing support players expect from us. At present, this is the case with only one download service. While EA offers its entire portfolio to this site, they have elected to not post many of our games. We hope to find a mutually agreeable solution to this issue soon.
Note the very important fact that there are no details here. We don't know what EA is saying to Steam in closed-door meetings with regard to "contacting players." They are very likely trying to force-feed things through that for whatever reason Steam takes exception to. Until we find out what, I'm still solidly in Steam's court here.

I want to hug EA. Sounds like they want to do something annoying, because thats what they do.

Maybe they did have a problem with steam before but not the product to push back against steam. ... or maybe steam wanted extra money or ea wanted more money. I doubt we know 1/2 of what is going on.

You can't blame EA for trying to get everyone to go through them.

No but I can be annoyed by having to use their service when I already have one that works. I have a bunch of games on a Steam and a Friends list that I find useful, I'll take the DVD copies.

In reality, Origin has been around for a while, it was just called EA Downloader. They may have added new features, but it is still basically the same thing...

Since I cant get it from steam ill buy from a brick and mortar store. Im not paying EA $60 for software, since there is no middle man that way I want my box....

Only thing EA is good for is screwing people out of money and milking games to death. What happened to the good old days when content was added for free???? EA likes to milk that to.
