Actually contemplating asking if I can bring my computer IN to work to download the game since I only have a 3 Mbps connection at home vs the 3 internet connections to choose from at work... Can anyone tell me how big the alpha was?

I won't be taking a day off of work for a beta. That's just silly. However, the week after the game's release I will be taking all of it. It was a pain in the ass to get my boss to agree about me taking the Halloween weekend off.
