That board is definitely NOT holding you back unless it is defective in some way. That is a great board and one of the best from socket 775.

Do you have an aftermarket HSF?

I know with 775 boards, it can be a little finicky using 4 sticks of RAM and OC.

This is off the top of my head so excuse me if I am off on what your bios shows. But I would start with something like this:

        9x on the multi

        try for a 3.0ghz so do a 9x340mhz configuration.

Make sure you set the RAM to run at its recommended specifications.

Your CPU voltage is going to vary and you may need to experiment. But start slightly high around 1.4 and see what happens.

I would up the voltage of the MCH and everything else by at least +.1

Anothing I notices in my setup is I had to up the PCIE voltage and run it at 103 instead of the stock and recommended 100. It was just more stable that way.

Turn off all the "throttling" options in the BIOS at first to test your OC (like C1E and SpeedStep etc.) You can always turn these back on after you have found your OC you like.

It could also be that you just don't have a good Q6600 clocker. If you have a G0 chip you should be good with a 3.4-3.6 OC like I had. Some of the other Q6600 chips did have some issues, but 3.0 should be attainable on all of them at least.

This is just off the top of my head, but hope it helps some.

It just occurred to me today when watching this video on youtube of "actual videogame footage" that the detail in that video is much better than what I see in the Beta with all settings on high. I'm afraid I may have trouble running at max settings with the aforementioned specs. Anyone hear anything about the actual release being more demanding than the beta?

So I took the recommendations from slice and overclocked my Q6600 successfully. I didn't go quite as high on speed as suggested, but went from 2.4ghz to 2.7ghz, and there was absolutely no change in FPS in game.
Probably being limited by the video card I would imagine. Oh well. I went back to stock speeds now because this PC also acts as a DVR, and if my wife's shows don't record I end up in the dog house. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks anyways though slice! I'll stick to low settings and 40-ish fps for now and be happy.

Yeah do not piss off the wife!

Glad I could sort of help.

Honestly I think everyone will see better performance when the game comes out since its based on older code with many bugs we'll probably see better results at release.

I then noticed when I installed the NVIDIA beta drivers, it also installed some NVIDIA high def audio drivers, even though I do not an NVIDIA sound card. So I uninstalled all the NVIDIA drivers, re-installed my sound card drivers, re-installed the NVIDIA, Video drivers ONLY, and I've played 4 rounds without a drop or BSOD. Hopefully that was the problem.
Well that apparently was not the problem. The BSOD continues to happen about every third game. Frustrating is not even an adequate word.

If worse comes to worse, just format your PC and start from scratch. It could be conflicts with old drivers, or it could be a hardware failure.... No way knowing without the PC in front of me(us).

Did you use Driver Sweeper to at least try and remove any remnants of past Nvidia drivers?

Yes I did. I'm pretty through when updating/removing drivers.

I'm thinking about reformatting anyway, I've got to separate disk drives and I want to RAID them together into one drive. I also want to go to 64-bit.

Those Q6600 chips should clock alot further than that. I had mine running at 3.4ghz on air without an issue.

do you use evga precision or MSI afterburner? they are both known to cause that kind of crash. I stopped running afterburner and never got another one of those crashes in bc2.

I had this issue for months on a brand new pc build (sound stutter lockup, random BSOD only while gaming/full load) and it ended up being the ram slots. I have all 4 filled with 4gb sticks, same brand, same model number, bought at the same time. An email from the manufacturer said I should turn down the clock speed (1600 to 1333) and that fixed it. This is a good general practice for all motherboards that have all the slots filled. There are some timings I can play with at 1333 to make it equivalent to 1600, but the performance difference is negligible so I haven't bothered.

I use both EVGA Precision and MSI Afterburner and haven't had an issue.

BTW what you doing in Tally? Went to FSU there 1995-1999, used to host the biggest Quake 1/2/3 LAN parties in town for a while. Good times.

I've lived in Tally most of my life. I must like it here, I've moved away several times and always come back. I've been a life long Nole, my Aunt was coach Bowden's executive assistant for more than 30 years.
