Could be some random dude who saw you in a server. I always accept random friend requests. Sometimes it's been guys (at least in games with working VOIP) that I had a couple of great rounds with. I look on them as potential CLRs.

I've had a few random requests from people I don't know. I don't really talk much with people in game anymore as the chat box is so easy to miss, and not easily accessible like in BC2, where you could pres the ~ key and pull up the chat log. I don't think you can do that on the beta.
