Short answer, you are correct. It's a bonafied sequel. I didn't see anything in the beta that made the game play feel different than the previous Battlefield iterations. The game play is a bit of a mix between BC2 and BF2 with slight changes. Biggest game play change for me was how useful suppressing fire is. I really enjoyed that aspect.

I honestly didn't see anything major in the ability to "blow up everything." DICE has been raving about their Frostbite 2 engine, but I really haven't seen anything impressively different in the physics yet.

The netcode is still crap, so if you have a ping over 150 your going to get shot behind walls and see yourself make it behind cover, but still die a good 3 or 4 steps after you've made it behind cover.

Last thing, the game is still tons of fun and most of the changes they've done in the game play (though minor) have made the game more enjoyable than previous iterations. Except for air combat, nothing has come close to the air combat in 1942.

This is the reason why I joined cainslair. I played for a while in vietnam and when BF2 came out played around. Didn't even know there were squads for a while and when I did join one someone here asked me to check a back room by a flag. That team work is what brought me to cains.

You also have to understand on the text chat if you were used to BF2/2142 that the chat was static and in the left hand side. The change is hard to get used to as it is on the right and disappears. You also can't chat when waiting to spawn...nor read it .
I also joined Cainslair because of the Teamwork, in my case in 2142.

Being able to talk to squadmates is one of the main reasons BF2 and 2142 were so good (didn't play vietnam or 1942). YOu could join a squad with random people and instantly be able to coordinate. When I was playing BF2, I would just join random servers and didn't know many people who played. Without in-game voip, it would have sucked for me.

Be quiet, you don't criticize Dice for BF3 when you think that MW3 is "very exciting and original."

The beta was a OLD code. It also didnt have FULL Destruction 3.0.
just partial like the ALPHA did..

I think this is a more a step in the direction of a BF2 successor. The Bad Company series (mind you, we only saw 2 on the PC... BFBC was on consoles) was a console-based Battlefield game. This feels much more like a PC-oriented game. And I'm only talking about the beta, which they have said time and time again is old code and has been updated.

I do miss the commander. While I did not play BF2 alot, I did play the hell out of BF2142. Both had a commander, and it was good fun sometimes (when eating, or even drunk) getting on as a commander and causing havok without having to be moving around and doing all that kind of junk.

                        But again, I ramble...
"You cannot have 'slaughter' without having 'laughter'"
"If I had wanted to show off, I would have been a porn star."
"I have a 9in. tongue and I can breathe through my ears."

After discovering the lack of VOIP like BF2, the small squads, etc... I might just cancel my preorder. Yeah the graphics are amazing. But the lack of commander kills team play right there...

Uhhh, I'm on the fence now actually...

One addition I do really like is the suppression. It (with the prone) really adds another dimension to firefights. Those two with the graphics, even on beta, alone make it worth the purchase for me.

It's not the same thing. In BF2 you could C4 the enemy artillery pieces, preventing the enemy commander from shelling your troops. Same thing with the radar and UAV, where you knock out a target and the enemy loses an asset until they can repair it.

IT will all be missed, but we have to move on I suppose.
