First of all, you don't read the minimum requirements, recommended are for settings High and Ultra.
And you are confusing vRam with real RAM. You don't add your 1.5GB of vRam to your other 1.5GB running on the real RAM.
vRam does not count.
Yeah... there's some confusion going on.
They "recommend" 4gb of system ram and 1gb of video ram. From what I understand, most games won't use more than 1gb of video ram unless you are running some really high resolution or multiple monitors.
As far as system ram, I believe BF3 is still a 32-bit program, so it shouldn't be able to address more than 4gb. But with BF3 plus the OS (and whatever else), you might end up using more than 4gb if it's available. And that's assuming you are using 64 bit windows 7 or vista.
Hopefully everyone is using the 64-bit versions of windows 7 or vista. Otherwise, you won't even have 4 gb available as system ram even if it's installed due to addressing limitations in 32 bit.

Trust me I am not confusing. I do this stuff for a living. I have been commenting on both system RAM and Vram. I have no idea how much system RAM BF3 used during the beta as I did not track it. But I do know, that @ 1080p res on caspian, it was using 1.5gb of vram. I do not know how anyone got confused with what I have been saying.

I was confused because the discussion that Juneau brought up was about RAM and upgrading it, not video RAM and how much it ran with BF3.

Yeah i'm sorry, I brought it up out of the blue. Just because he said he will probably get a new video card, so I was throwing that in there to help with his decision.
Anybody have real world RAM usage stats for BF3? Very interested to see just how close to the 32bit limit EA/Dice have pushed it, and why they didn't make it 64bit considering 4GB RAM is not apparently not enough for this game.

And it never ends. Checked my power supply today and it's only 550. Right on the edge of reccomended using the New Egg power calculator. And knowing I'm going to do some OCing, need to buy another one.
