    Need Rig Suggestions

I just upgraded to an older quad (on it's way from an Ebay seller) since I didn't want to replace the motherboard and memory just yet knowing I may need a new video card. But how will my rig run BF3? Do I need more memory? Is the Core 2 quad "okay"? Is the video card really hurting? I play Bad Company 2 no problem right now with a dual core (maybe high settings). I'd like a somewhat similar gameplay in BF3.

    Here's the specs:

    Windows 7 64 bit
    Nvidea GeForce GTX 260 896mb
Core 2 Quad CPU Q9450 2.66 GHz (plan on some OCing later).
    4 gig Kingston HyperX DDR2 800

    Thanks

Intel Core i5-2500K 4.5 GHz Overclocked
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, 6GB GDDR5
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 2133

I would say double up on the Ram.. I am sure people here will say more on the video card.
Question I would think of is there any problems putting other video cards in the same socket.

If you can get a good Oc around 3.4-3.6, you should be good. You will probably be forced to play on Medium at best. 4 more gigs of ram and a better vid card will healp alot. Look into an nVidia GTX 560 (560ti if you can). That should match up well with your hardware. If not, just hold out and do a overhaul of the whole system.

I agree with slice. BF3 was very playable for me on a Core 2 Quad Q6600 at 3.2ghz, with a GTX260 1GB and 8GB of RAM. Not sure how the smaller memory on your video card will handle things, but it shouldn't make too big of a difference.

I think OCing that processor is a must. BF3 is very CPU dependent so the more you can get out of your CPU the better.

i have the same card in my rig ...but i have a quad cpu and 16 gig of ram....runs bf3 good...well in beta anyway ....only crappy part that i could tell about our cards is when you try to play sniper in the tunnles of operation metro would get choppy video lagg on the zoom in at long range as trying to look through the fire ...other than that...my 260 was good...no that being said...i still plan on upgrading my card cuz i wanna update it it is a old card and i want some more horse power in rendering goodness

In the beta, BF3 @ 1080p rez at high and ultra used about 1.5GB of vram... And what is crazy is that supposedly, high and ultra was just really Medium. Not sure how accurate that is, but if true, this game is going to be super taxing.

Uggh! The Ebay seller says the listing was an incorrect duplicate and he no longer has the CPU. Fudge it! How about this upgrade until I can get a new video card approved by the female finance department?

CPU, good. RAM, good. Motherboard? I dunno... ASRock boards have always been a bit questionable in my book, but the reviews of that board on newegg are rather favorable.

That will be a significant upgrade. That motherboard is very good. ASRock is essentially Asus. The ASRock boards do not have as long as a warranty as the Asus branded ones though.

But that will be a very nice upgrade. OC that 2500k to 4.2+ and you will be good to go. BF3 does really love a good CPU.

Save up and get a vid card when you can. With a setup like that, I would get either nVidia 570 or 580, or if ATI a 6950 2gb or 6970. Or just wait for the next gen cards.

What resolution do you run at?

My monitor's native is 1680 x 1056. I was looking at the 560 ti since it's on the recommended spec list. But a 570 is only another $100 or so. But then again, everything is another $100 is seems.

                        Maybe this:

Unless you have good case cooling dont go with those aftermarket coolers on the GPU. It will turn the inside of your case into an oven and run up temps on everything.

That is a really good card. But for the price, I would get a 6970 instead. The 6970 is closer to a 580 than a 570. So for the price I would get a 6970 all day. However at your resolution, I would save some pennies and get a 6950 2gb or a 560ti. If you plan on going 1080p rez in the near future, than get a 6970 or stick with a 6950...
