    Potential Factory OC Card Troubles

Here is what I posted on the EA forums. No one is responding. But maybe you guys have some insight.

I spent a very frustrating few hours last night trying to play BF3. After about 10-15 minutes, the BF3 would screen would go black and stop responding. The sound was playing still, but sounded corrupted as well. I am using the latest Nvidia drivers released yesterday and BF3 is up to date (even ran the repair function in Origin).

Had to use Task Manager to shut it down. Windows 7 (64 bit) would tell me there were errors with the Nvidia drivers. I was also getting some weird DX11 errors this morning. I thought maybe the card was overheating. I maxed the GPU fan and turned down some of the graphics options. Temps dropped from near 70C to around 45C, but it didn’t work.

On a whim, I turned down the factory overclocking to standard 570 clock settings. Played 5 games in row with no more issues. Super annoying to buy a nice overclocked card and have to turn it down.

Is this normal? Or is it maybe something else? Maybe the just released drivers have a bug?

I think I have that same card, and I keep locking up or crashing.

How do I turn down the OC to standard settings??

I used the EVGA Precision software I believe (I am at work and can't check). I had to register my card to download it. It has sliders for all the internal clocks and the fan.

But I do hear the MSI Afterburner software is better and is free to download (just Google it). I'll be using that when I explore my OC options. It's the update to RivaTuner apparently.

What card do you have? Is the factory overclock quite high? I'm going to take a wild guess as EVGA, MSI or maybe Gigabtyte as your card.

These days i stay away from preoverclocked graphics cards. Not only is the extra gain usually negligible for the extra cost (which you can do youself very easily), they don't appear to be half as stable as previous generations of cards in days gone by.

Leave it at stock and see how it goes. After a few days put the cards clocks back into their OC defaults and again play some more. If it crashes, you more than likely have your answer.

edit: Only just noticed you posted your exact spec lol. If the overclock is causing the problem i wouldn't be surprised. The Classified is the most heavily overclocked card on the 570 market iirc.

OK, so what is the "Standard clock for this GPU"???

And do I have to keep EVGA tuner thing, running, or will the card stay where I set it if I close the EVGA Tuner thing?

Don't quote me on this just yet but i believe the 570 is,

            Core: 732
            Mem: 3800
            Shader 1464

And yes you need to keep EVGA precision running.

Are you two running the new drivers that Nvidia put out yesterday? If so it might be worth rolling back, especially if you didn't have these problems before.

              Thx Juneau,

Hey Bon3z what did you turn your card down to ??

              Is this right:
The reference GeForce GTX 570 runs at 732 MHz core, 950 MHz memory, and 1464 MHz shader.

I am running a 570 with no problems... didn't install myself though and have the updates.

                  Processor Clock (MHz) 1464
                  Texture Fill Rate (billion/sec) 43.9
                  Memory Specs:
                  Memory Clock (MHz) 1900
Standard Memory Config 1280 MB GDDR5
                  Memory Interface Width 320-bit
                  Memory Bandwidth (GB/sec) 152.0
                  GeForce GTX 570

So what you said is correct.

Not sure how precision displays the RAM speed so you'll either need to set it at 950, 1900, or 3800.

Do you have the EVGA GTX570 Classified too, Cain?

Another potential fix on the EA forums. Some think it's a Punkbuster issue. I'll try it tonight.

You could also try using the fan control functionality in EVGA Precision. It may be that the card is getting too hot.

Could be, my GTX 275 will never enable the fan high enough so I just max the fan out before I even start the game. When it's over I just reset it back down to the default speed of 40%.

It is really easy to set up fan control using Precision. It has a graph with like 5 thresholds that you can drag to set.

One thing I just remembered, I forgot to check my Ram voltage. My Ram runs at 1.65v instead of the standard 1.5v. I wonder if my motherboard adjusted it correctly. If not, maybe the Ram is playing a part in this.

Oh really! I'll have to do that. My card was at around 70C and the fan was still set pretty low.
