Does it ever stop?
Even in BF3 where snipers are heavily nerfed and dont have the all mighty C4 people still sit there and whine about snipers. We have glare on our scopes, crap for equipment besides the spawn beacon (which is great for offensive snipers like myself 10pts a spawn!) From what I've seen there is no one shot kill unless its a headshot which is completely fair(causes me to miss a bit more as I'm aiming for the hs)

So still besides the fact that snipers are no longer a easy anti-infantry class people still complain about them. Look at the scoreboards. There is no longer the 20-5 snipers roaming around (maybe one every once and a while) and with the ir scope being available to all classes sniping is really no longer held to just recon. I get killed from ridiculous ranges most often by the scar and assault rifles not sniper rifles.

I was on TS the other day and two people were just going off about the "damn snipers" and constant bickering I dont think they even knew i was in ts. And it was on all chat at the time so I could hear them complaining about me and one was saying something about me being atop D on caspian when i was like 10 ft to his right.

So what I'm saying is calm your jets on the sniper hatred I hear it everyday and in BC2 it was justified but here in BF3 I'm sorry but it really isnt. If they kill you from mad far its probably from a good shot or u just aint moving enough. Sorry for the rant but hearing the same thing over and over is annoying. Sniper is no longer a super easy one shot kill class Can we please respect it.

PJ, one aspect of sniper hatred you are missing is that most snipers are not viewed as team players. It is very difficult for a sniper to help his squad when they are just camping (I mean strategically waiting) one spot the whole round. On top of that, many snipers will still camp a point even when their team doesn't own the point.

In no way am I saying you are that type of sniper. I wanted to merely point out a view I believe needs to be considered in your argument.

I agree with Nauticas... snipers aren't often seen as team players more lone wolves. Although the beacon helps a lot with that.

I had issues with snipers in other games. I dont have any issues with snipers in this game. I try not to group with them, as they are counterproductive to a squad rush style of team play, but as a class, they are fine.

My issue with the class is on certain maps that are sniper friendly maps. You'll have the prior map with a balanced player class in your team (in other words, everyone as support) and then the map changes and half the people are snipers because it's an easy sniper map.... removing the team tactics of the game.

But s'all good, I rarely complain about snipers other than the fact that I suck as one...almost as much as I suck as a chopper pilot

Snipers, other than the teamplay aspects Nauticas mentioned, aren't going to be a problem in this game. Instead, EA decided to make Support into the jerk class. Between C4 jihad jeeps (thankfully, we've seen few of those so far) and those bloody mortars, scumbag support guys who want to do nothing but spam it up from their uncaps are going to be the biggest playas to hate on.

I was actually told, day before yesterday, I was doing a horrible job as a sniper. That snipers are worthless....

Wanna know my primary weapon when as recon? The shotgun. Shotgun, proximity detector, spawn beacon.... nice little package, and you're not stuck on the hills waiting for something to move.

Yet I was told 'snipers are worthless' for being recon....

Been mostly engineer, with equal time split between support and recon.... can't wait for mortars, but support isn't my normal forte.

As a a sniper I can tell you that when I'm sniping, I'm in there for myself. Don't give me that "I rush with a red dot" line because that's stupid. If you want to rush, get a real weapon.

I have to disagree on the sniper being a lone wolf idea. The whole idea of a sniper is to cover his team mates from a covered position or pick off an enemy while maintaining cover. They are used in assassinations but that's not really what I call contributing to a fight.

So bottom line, IF the sniper is played right he can benefit his team tremendously. Especially with Thermal.

In the situations I choose recon, its to get the spawn beacon in a key place. That way the squad doesn't have to rely on the SL being up. As per rush with red dot, I'm up to holo scope, can't wait for 4x and slugs, if it turns out they are decent accuracy... if not, then I'll settle for IR.

Previous games (2, 2142, etc), I loved sniping... but with all the changes, it feels like a poor attempt at a COD sniper, that can be easily spotted by sniping-assault-riflers. Really wish there were an early option for a bolt action, perhaps once I get to the M95 replacement, I might change my mind.

One thing's for sure, sniping takes enough skill now that at least it makes it so teams aren't unbalanced in favor of sniper heavy teams, much the contrary. There's a handful of great snipers, a couple ok ones, and the rest should be holding an assault rifle at range (I prefer shotgun in the face, but that's me.. I know I don't have the skill for sniping as of now).

I'm just glad they removed the claymores from the Snipers, and completely nerfed them. I have yet to be killed by a claymore in this game. In BF2, it was probably the weapon that killed me the most.

This is only true if they are holding an objective. Most of the time they are just sniping down a hallway so it's easy and the targets don't have much cover or space to dodge. Worse, is they tend to have tunnel vision and because of this, are not aware of changing situations that would require them to relocate/adjust their angle.

Top all of that off with that the sniper that manages to be a squad leader. This tends to compound the uselessness, as they're nine times out of ten up in the middle of nowhere, not looking at anything important, and not near enough to any objectives.
