The is the best news ever!!! I HATE HATE HATE how dlc usually has to be run seperately from the vanilla maps. But now we can get the best of both.

My guess is they will be kicked when a map they don't have loads.

What is the incentive to buy the DLC if you can play all the maps on any server for free??

my guess is you will just get kicked or can't join a server that is running the maps. The search function is already in the Battlelog and you can click on both types at once.

I think what they mean is that would be the choice of the server admins, since it's not like Vietnam where you had to completely configure a server for it as opposed to having the content just be chosen as maps.

The Karkand maps will be Maps, not something the server necessarily has to be customized or specialized to. You could always leave them out of the rotation.
