Help me get online!

Hi all, had fun with BFBC2 with some of you and baught BF3 on the PC instead of Xbox. Went throught the campaign (so i guess my video drivers are okay) and tried online and got into one game for about 15 seconds before it froze, now I cant get anything - just says joining, loading levels, initiallizing, connecting and nothing happens after that. WTF? It shouldnt be this hard. any thoughts? ideas? please? dont want to quit and go to WW3on xbox. Thanks.

Have you tried restarting?

Make certain you have the most recent video card drivers, and try again....

Both nVidia and ATI have new beta drivers that work much better.

You know you have to have Origin installed and running and you connect thru a Web broswer, right?


Then search for CAIN

Yeah, I have most recent Origin installed. vid drivers may be problematic since I have a Dell Studio XPS, and anytime I try to uninstall old ATI 5870 drivers and install new, I lose ability to run Catalyst and control my vid card. They have some BS hybrid drivers installed for the BD player and there is no ATI installer program to uninstall everything. Very frustrating. And yeah, I've restarted many times. Seems like if I was in an on-line game for 45 seconds, it wouldnt be a driver issue. BFBC2 arill runs fine - is it the web based system or my vid drivers. Too old for this shit! :-)

Oh, it was you JC? didn't notice. Anyway, I was on your server for 45 seconds, then it froze, and havent been able to get on since last weekend. Thoughts?

Ugh! okay...I was bable to update to ATI driver version 11.5, and I got on line with another server (though I got a message saying I should use 11.7). guess it is a driver issue. I swear I used to be good at this stuff back in the Voodoo 3dfx days!

I can tell you it is your video drivers, or video card issues, we have ALL been pulling our hair out with this game. I also had to update my card's firmware.

When you are on the cutting edge of a new game, crap like this is what you deal with.

Glad you're making some progress Savage.

This game is very finicky. The latest video drivers are very necessary (not just a frame rate problem). Most of us have had some trouble getting it going. A few have had to reinstall Windows. Google has a good index of BF3 sadness; all those problems are forgotten once the game works properly.
