    Nvidia Information Request

Hey guys, I've been with ATI for a looooong time and this is my first experience with Nvidia. I went ahead and got the 2GB 560 Ti and now I need some information about software and everything that is supposed to come with it.

I've still got the AMD software installed and I want to uninstall it, but I'm worried if I do that my support will go away for the Nvidia card.

Any information would be great. Also do I need to roll back drivers? Everyone says they're having problems with the 285 patch.

Why not? I got my first one and loved it so much I got a second. (Thank God for Newegg's no interest if paid in 12 months option)...

Niles, if you're running an nVidia card, uninstall all of your ATI software. It won't do anything at all for you, and just clutters up your system.

I recommend running the latest nVidia beta drivers - I linked 'em in the other thread. They're the 290 series.

As for other software... your card's manufacturer might provide an overclocking/monitoring utility, but it's really not necessary to install one.

I had some overheating issue and crashes with my 570, went back to the store where I bought it, they didn't have it in stock so they replaced it with the "hd" version basically a different fan placement with the same performance, it's been running good and I didn't have to pay a dime to fix the problem (thank god)

lol Cain, I didn't get the 570. I got the MSI GTX 560 Ti 2GB version.

It runs Crysis 2 amazing! Although it still can't handle alot of smoke. Whenever I have an explosion it's smooth, but the frame rate dips a little as expected. I'm trying to figure out what I can do to reduce the dip.

It'll heat up to about 48 degrees under load then quickly reduce the temp when I exit a game. It's funny watching the temperature drop that quick.

Now I don't know if the smoke is CPU related or GPU related, but it's great being able to have everything on now! Of course if I want decent frames I can't go 1920x1080.. That's not a problem. This card is awesome!

Ahh... of the video card utility software, MSI makes one of the best. Theirs includes super-efficient game recording software that has very little impact on performance when running.

I'm on a Superclocked eVGA 560 Ti 1GB. It's amazing what these 560 Tis can do... I'm only at 1680x1050 (max resolution of my monitors), but most of my BF3 settings are at Ultra and I get a solid 60fps. I'll post a screenshot of the settings when I get home from work today if you want to try 'em out.

You're supposed to uninstall your old drivers before installing a new card, not after. Especially when you switch companies lol.

You currently have 2 conflicting sets of graphics drivers loading everytime you boot windows.

Since you do not plan to "swap" the ATI and Nvidia card back and forth, it would be tidy house keeping to remove all of the ATI "devices" that modern graphics card loads onto the system (may just be that single Graphics Adapter). To see "ghosted" hidden devices, a MS KB article was clearly and well written to assist with XP/Vista/7:
Device Manager does not display devices that are not connected to the Windows XP-based computer

The first 285 beta was released during BF3's open beta. The subsequent release had issues with TV tuners, some Win Media Center versions, and did quite a number on a few special Win XP hardware setups. Most of that is solved in the 290 beta. In addition, the 285 release DOWNGRADED the PhysX driver from the 285 beta, the 290 series brings it back up, which is nice, because when I get blown up the rendered cloud of my pieces is something fun to watch at a higher frame rate

The green lines/flickering, black triangles, and first launch resulting in "BF3.exe stopped responding" appear solved in the 290 beta. The "auto" fan profile is a bit more aggressive as well, which will be nice when the months of snowember are done with and the heat returns.

Nvidia's "geforce.com" has quite a bit of more info if your inner geek has time to play. They have a "BF3 tweak guide" as well as an "OPS" (Optimal Playable Settings) that they claim they "test" for each game against each GPU, YMMV.

In addition to what everyone else has said (uninstall all AMD video drivers, etc., use latest beta driver), I would also recommend you install EVGA Precision. It will work on any NVIDIA card, not just EVGA. It is a great utility. I use it for custom fan control.

In what game? Not BF3... It doesn't use PhysX. If it did Nvidia would be advertising the heck out of that tie in.

Games have to support Physx, and many of the big titles don't.

These are currently the best drivers for 500 series nvidia and bf3.

I still have to "underclock" the factor OC settings on my 570 or it crashes BF3.

Not happy about the workaround. But it still plays smooth.

That stinks. Mine is actually factory overclocked and I have had nothing but success with it.
