    Tank Gunner Questions

    I'm close to unlocking everything on tanks. They still aren't where they should be but we'll see what future patches do. What I would like to know is what guys who like to gun for tankers want on your loadouts.

    I just switched from prox scan to SOFLAM and optic zoom. I need someone to let me know how prox scan works for you if you've had it as a gunner. I think I'm likely to ditch it from the mix because much of the time I'll be with a gunner who isn't on VOIP and it won't help us much without that coordination. I didn't notice that I could see anything as the driver.

    You guys like belt feeder? Thermal optics? .50 cal? What works best for you? Anyone have that phosphorous fire-gas yet?

    I just unlocked the staff shell and I'm going to try that a bit tonight to see if it works against infantry and how much damage it does to armor. I'm hoping to find a combination that helps me deal with infantry better since HE and canister are about as useless as AP. Unless staff is really, really good I would like to go back to running the guided shell, so SOFLAM will be helpful, but I don't like that it eats up a major gunner slot-the third gunner position of BF3 was a better option with lasing targets. And unless they improve splash damage my hands may be tied anyway--may need coax guns to handle infantry.

    At least gunships aren't as dangerous as I feared. They're crazy inaccurate.

    I might be and probably am totally wrong.. doesn't the 2nd seat choose their own load outs and not yours?

    I had prox sensors in beta and the recon ball... I only got any indication from points once from each once. I have no idea if they really work well or the distance. My guess is try in an empty server to see how well they work. In BF3 they were Great IMO.
    Sadly we aren't ever empty enough

      Actually that's a good question. The simplistic way the customization is set up suggested to me that I was customizing the entire tank for both me and the gunner. I guess I can hop in some random guy's tank and see what comes up in the gunner seat to confirm which way is which.

        Proximity scan is useless when recons are using stealth upgrades and you are switching between 1st and 3rd person view. Either zoom or thermal for gunner optics and incendiary for upgrade. SOFLAM is good if you want to take on air at a distance.

              So, let me get this straight.


              If I have everything unlocked for a tank, get in the tank, the main and the gunner have whatever it is for my kit set - not their own?

              So if I get into a newbie's tank, I wont get the bonuses of what I have already unlocked?

                    I'm running thermal and incendiary for the gunner now. I don't think anyone has used the incendiary in my tank yet.

                        Yea when I was in your tank(As opposed to throwing the mines under it ) it was my own load out I didn't have your upgrades.

                          Were you in it today? I just slapped the thermal and incendiaries on it after I finished playing yesteday. When I hopped in some random guy's tank it wasn't running what I had for gunner loadout, but what he had.

                            These tanks aren't that good yet, and likely won't be for some time since DICE is working on their broken netcode before they work on balance tweaks.

                            Neither are the APCs. The armored boat, on the other hand, is pretty dang awesomely OP.

                              the unlocks are for you and you only. so, if your gunner wants to rock them, they'll have to unlock them as well. i roll with my buddy quite frequently in a tank, so proxy and thermal for me... though, i unno, i'm thinking about ditching proxy because thermal works pretty rad itself for just... spotting people and opting for belt loader.

                              for driving, i've got he shells, coax lmg, reactive and ir smoke. not quite sure how reactive really works in this quite yet, lol. i might switch back to AP rounds though, because i dig the arc a bit more(but not like bf3), but the HE's are nasty against armor. i dunno about the hmg though, as far as an anti infantry setup i think the lmg does a nicer job.

                              ... in IFV's though rockin that canister shell for the main gun. love thattttt.
