What the Heck is happening!?!?

Just a quick update on the odd things going on with our game server.

The data-center that servers our GSP, which hosts our BC2:V server has been bombarded for the couple of weeks with Denial of Service attacks.

When one of these attacks occurs everyone gets kicked out of our server, and the server also loses contact with the EA Plasma backend server (that tracks player stats, rankings, and validates our server as being Ranked). If I do not manually reboot the server it may sit unreachable for hours, and I will not realize that.

To say that this DDOS business has been a huge pain in the neck for me, and our GSP would be an understatement.

I have considered moving our server at least temporarily to a different data-center until the DOS attacks subside. I am still considering this option.

I am encouraged and excited by the amazing level of busyness our server has had for the last 3 weeks, and I am also amazed that even though players are getting dumped out several times per day - they keep on coming back!! We have had thousands of new players come through our server.

Remember folks, all CLRs and Admins need to make our server a friendly and enjoyable place to play.

Please don't whine or bitch, about anything, and try to be friendly and positive at all times. If you want to bitch about something or someone do it here, or PM me.

Welcome new players by name, and welcome them to our Forums to meet us. The more regular players we have, particularly ones who play outside of 7PM-midnight, the easier it will be to jumpstart our server.

Will this give the server a new IP?

Yes.....

But the players will notice the difference.

Hi Cain,

The server is being transferred now, you will receive an email with the new IP shortly.

We have already moved dozens of customers to Chicago because of this issue. The server will remain in players Favorites or Bookmarks.

I hope people who have favourited us find us again. I've seen a lot of new familiar faces over the last week or so.

Pity we didn't advertise the IP for at least 24hours on the current, now old, server.

We're going to need to put extra effort in over the next few days or so to make sure the numbers don't drop.

Yes we will definitely need "all hands on deckl" to maintain our momentum.

The way this game works though, you will notice you never see the server IP in the game itself, so your bookmarks and history Should still show Cain's Lair.
