its called "march madness" everyone and their mother it seems fills out brackets and are glues to the TV to se if they made it or not. there is some other basketball tourney as well. i do not follow, so i can not elaborate further.

Bigger. Much bigger. Except maybe Texas.

At least, if you're talking about people talking, betting interest, and watching on TV. Physical attendance is around 11,000 per game vs. 70-100,000 due to venue sizes.

I don't think so. I think the order in popular US sports is Pro Football > College Football > Pro Baseball > Pro Basketball > College Basketball > Pro Hockey > Minor League/College Baseball > College Hockey > Women's Basketball > Soccer

For college basketball and March Madness you see many people not usually following the sport making bracket predictions, and once those brackets fall apart they stop caring. Even if they follow it they're not really watching the games.

The order around here is Pro Football > Pro Baseball > College Basketball > Pro Basketball > College Football > Pro Hockey.

None of the others you list even come close to this set. College Hockey doesn't even enter into the conversation. We're too far south for any of the colleges to even have teams.

The rank of a sport's popularity is regional. I could say that it's likely NCAA Basketball is the most watched sport in the state of North Carolina. Indiana would be right behind them in my book.
