    Sniper limit script

    Was chatting with Juneau in Cain's Lair (BC2 vanilla server) today about the possibility of loading the sniper limit script. Nothing more annoying that 80% snipers, regardless if one is with or against them! His main question appeared to be if that script causes a server to become un-ranked. I don't think it does, but I don't currently admin or operate any BC2 servers either.

    Two servers that I frequent that use the sniper limit script are:
    24/7 The Real <TNT> Heavy Metal Conquest, and
    TNT and EST hardcore mixed (U.K. server).
    Both of these appear as ranked in the BC2 browser.

    The limit script allows one to set a maximum for the number of snipers on the team. Once the limit is reached, anyone else spawning with the sniper kit sees a screen display that the limit is reached, then the server kills them. Similar to the spawn camping script that auto kills, the sniper limit script auto kills them but the death does not show up on the game stats.

    Would encourage CLR to consider it. Either way, it's all good...the Cain's Lair server is one of the most enjoyable I play - when Cain isn't sneaking up on me and scaring me to death (yesterday, lol)!

    I'll continue to watch for other example servers that run the limit script as well. I don't load sniper kits that often though, so it will take time

      i too have played on ranked servers with a sniper limit. i have heard that wont allow you to be ranked, but well, my points stats and rewards keep going up.

        2) Thank you for the feedback, I HATE snipers personally, and I will look into this.

        3) You anticipated my objection, that this may violate the ROE for Ranked servers.

        You wouldn't happen to know exactly how they limit snipers? If it is a Procon plugin, that is a piece of cake to implement, I'll look into it,

          i am not sure logistics on how it works. i just know if i enter as sniper, i get killed upon spawn, and a msg saying " this server has a limit on the number of snipers, choose another class"
          i was SUPER PO'd the first time this happened cause i thought it counted as a death, but it didnt.
          id maybe look into the servers he listed as i cant tell you which ones i was that had the script/.

            Did a bit more digging, and it does appear to be a Procon item - http://www.phogue.net/forumvb/showth...t=sniper+limit . Hope it is okay to link to other forum items here.

            As to discussion on whether it violates ROE, it appears that most believe that limiting the maximum number of a given class does not constitute a violation. Obviously, I am not employed by DICE, steam, or other BC2 powers that be. Just generally community feedback indicates that this approach has not been resulting in action. Servers with these rules are allowing use of all game weapons, just on a first come first serve basis with limits.

                I strenuously object to this script. Whats needed is not a limit on snipers but, a limit on sniper rifles. In both Vietnam and BC2 I play a sniper who doesn't use scoped weapons and I typically use ceramic armor because I'm in the front capping flags. This script would unfairly penalize me for my unorthodox style of play. Look I hate snipers that sit out in the bush wanking. I also hate tankers that sit just outside of the uncap and pretend to be artillery hoping for easy high KDRs. Do we limit tanks though nope

                  tanks are limited. there are only 1, 2 or 3 on any given side. unless someone stole an enemy tank while being repaired.

                  i get your point about limiting the rifles as opposed to class. why do you play without a rifle? just to use the explosives and artillery? or do you just have a thing for needing to play a bald avatar, lol i am guessing that limiting the number of rifles as opposed to class cant/wont work. someone can have jacked the freshly dead snipers rifle from them.... just seems like a lot of variables if not directly from the class itself.

                  i suck either way, so i dont care. i dislike the big open maps on vanilla anyway, harvest day and heavy metal i just dread playing.

                    I have to agree with Mapes. I do like to play sniper as a counter-sniper and I am usually up close to the front.

                      I like the idea of limiting snipers. But on the other hand I don't like limiting the C4/TNT and artillery strike the Recon class provides.

                      So you lose out either way. /shrug

                          I like the idea of limiting snipers, but not greatly. Maybe limit to 4 or 5 snipers per side.

                            For those attached to C4/TNT, remember that the assault class can equip this too...no bush attire required . No help for the motion mines, though I don't see them used that often. Mortar strike, yeah no help there either.

                            Some of the linked threads have discussed sniper rifle vs. recon kit for the script. I did not read the details to determine if this level of distinction can be made.
