Want to make BF2 Load Faster?

Here's how.

This has been proven to work and it will not cause any punkbuster related issues. I have asked EB and EA about this and it is all up to your preference. I have mine set up this way and even on my old computer. This works for vista as well.

Once doing this, when you open the game, you will be taken directly to the Username and Password screen. Here goes:

Navigate (vista too) to the folder:

C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2

In this folder you will see a subfolder called "Movies". (yes it will be an empty folder)

Rename the folder called "Movies" to "MoviesOLD".

Create a NEW folder called "Movies".

Close out the window and start the game.

Or open the properties of your BF2 shortcut and change the Target info to read ...

"C:\Games\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +restart 1

...and you will also skip straight to the logon screen. You may have to adjust the path to wherever you have BF2 installed.

I tried +restart1 and it doesn't appear to work anymore.

I have heard that it didn't work. I never tried that one. The other one works after a reboot. The one I mention has been around for ages. Trust your own judgement, but it works on my old pc and so far Vista.

I always rename my movies .backup.
If you have wide screen you can force it to simulate that also.

As far as I know, +restart 1 still works in BF2, but it didn't work in 2142. Here is what I use for automatic login:

+menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +restart 1 +playerName atlvolunteer +playerPassword mypassword +szx 1680 +szy 1050

The best thing you can do to improve map load times is to get more RAM. I have 4GB, and I am usually the first or second in when the map changes. When I only had 1GB (back when I played BF2 before), I got in MUCH slower.
