Dream server setup (for me anyway)

While vanilla TDM is a ton of fun, I'd be interested in trying a slightly more "realistic" version of the game. I found this list of server options on another site which may be out of date, but I took a look through and may have found my dream setup:

Hardcore TDM (maybe a bit too hardcore, if not at least put FF on)
    FF enabled
    Disable Martyrdom
    Enable point loss for suicides
    Enable point loss for teamkills
Disable kill streak rewards (no airstrikes or helis)
Force UAV (to prevent it from becoming a campfest)
    Teamkiller respawn 30 seconds
Auto kick teamkillers after 3 TKs

This setup mainly enables FF and punishes teamkilling which I think would dramatically change the game for the better, disabling the noobish airstrikes and helis while keeping the radar on to move the game forward is the icing on the cake.

Anyway just a thought, let me know if you have any dream options to change in TDM!

    sounds good to me

Hardcore lowers the nade spam a lot, from my experiences.

From what I've seen, Hardcore makes spam worse. Now friendly fire, THAT reduces nade spam. In fact, it makes throwing a nade a very deliberate action, because errant throws come with harsh penalties.

Looks pretty good Karson, not sure about the UAV thing though. There's something to be said for stealth play, and a permanent UAV would completely eliminate that (not to mention cause an endless stream of hacker accusations )

Also, auto kick after 3 tks is WAY WAY WAY too harsh. I'm all for stiff penalties (points or respawn time), but kicking for a few teamkills is like dropping an atomic bomb to kill a housefly. You could easily get someone kicked by running into their line of fire just a few times, which is one of the main problems with FF mode: TK griefing.

Having a server as Karson has described sounds like a good challenge. But Carbon also has some valid views.

Just so you are aware, FF on brings out the asshats like nothing else. It's like they can't resist standing in front of you, running after your nades, tripping your claymores, flat out shooting YOU for fun, etc.

Hardcore is unlikely here. We tried it on the HQ server to test it out a week or two ago, and generally didn't like it.

Yeah you're right about the kicking for TK, after all even with a good throw, the UAV and the best of intentions, a lot can change in the 4 seconds your fuse is going off. I was thinking more of griefer management but of course the Lair has good admins, so the 30 sec respawn and points loss is probably enough to keep people from being overly careless.

Re the UAV, I find in almost every match that it's up 100% anyway, and that people who want to play stealthy will have the anti-UAV perk enabled (I don't think this setting overrides that perk but I may be wrong). I've played without the UAV before and it's a much slower game since you not only don't know EXACTLY where the enemy is, but you don't even know where the enemy is GENERALLY - you spend a lot of time clearing empty buildings etc. while the fight is happening somewhere else! I thought having the UAV up at all times would allow people would help keep some of the speed of a regular TDM game by allowing people to get into the fight quickly, while still allowing stealthers to play the game their way.

Either way it's GREAT to see how customizable the COD4 server is, there's definitely a game in there for everyone!

also, just because you can change it in server options doesn't mean the server will be ranked with that config.

I would love to see a reflect damage option. This way you get rid of the TKs while at the same time you get rid of the nade spam.

There are some servers where if you TK anyone you die too and you have a spawn delay an dpoint loss.
About the TK kick, man in hardcore mode is easy to get some TK's so i guess that would be a bad choice.
I think a HQ of domination server just with FF on is a big difference.

Side note: friendly claymore don't explode with FF on...

                        +1 qft!

Whats odd is this out cry for a pro style play and skill style play. But when Cain ran a server for it. It sat empty while the tdm server stayed full. I personally enjoy both game types and i switch my weapon loads and perks based on what map is being played, what game type im playing and how many players are playing.

Metranome is worthless for a sniper who is gonna sit in the back of the map the whole match looking for headshots. But to the run and gunner, its very useful. But strategy changes like weapons and perks based on the map and the amount of people playing. The most people who get killed with nades are knife`ing people who gloat to long over their kill.

But there is a reason you dont see any ladders or league with high player counts. The style of play is completely different. Nades take a certain skill like pool as well. You can bounce nades off of things to clear a well camped area, like in vacant.

Hey, I like a total fragfest as much as the next guy, in UT2k4 I was one of the people who loved 64-player Primeval! That said I wouldn't mind switching it up once in a while for something a but more realistic, especially after watching killcam after killcam of some guy tossing random nades and getting lucky or spraying an M60 into a crowd of his own team. I'm not suggesting you change the current setup either, like anyone else I merely visit lesser servers when I want to play Dom or Sabo or whatever, but I wear my CLR tag when I do and I always come back!

Cain has researched until his eyes bugged out.
The TDM server is dialed in perfectly.
Now, the HQ server is still under some experimentation though.

Ranked servers can't take off airstrikes or gunships.

With FF-on, Airstrikes can and do kill your own teammates. Changes it
                            completely.

We experimented with FF-on with 2142, and it was Horrible. Deliberately
standing in front of armor or gunships so that you either abandoned the
vehicle, or ran them over and the TK. Nade spam still went on, just you
died from your own soldiers, as well as the opponent. You DID get a
negative score if you TK'd someone. Lots of nasty crap went on. And
some people went out of their way to make you get a negative score
                            just for grins and chuckles.

When i played a few rounds of hardcore, FF was on.
You throw a blind nade and kill a teammate, and a heartily
expressed apology is expected immediately. Done again, and
you are kicked from the server. No Martrydom allowed.

No Hud. No sights. Lots of sneaking carefully around, popping over
walls or peeking around corners quickly. Very intense, but slow.
Once you died, you spectated for the 5-10 minutes it took the rest of
the people to die. Not for everyone by any means.

And yes, my setup for HQ is alot different than my TDM setup.
Hardcore would be another different setup.
