    ACOG on a sniper rifle

Is it just me, or is it pure stupid to put an acog on a sniper rifle? I accidentally modded my sniper setup between rounds, and put the acog on my barrett by mistake, and if you put the ACOG on a sniper rifle, it makes it impossible to use the shift key to steady your shot...hold your breath.. etc. Am I missing something?

If so, then what's the point in using an ACOG scope on any weapon for that matter?

There is a few weapons I use it on from time to time but I hate the thing. I know if this was real life I could hold that thing a lot steadier then the game does. Same for the regular sniper rifle...

The point with ACOG is that you don't get tunnel vision looking down the scope, so you can maintain much better situational awareness (you can see around you, you can see the radar etc.) than with the sniper scope.

The trick to using the ACOG sight is to notice that the sight doesn't drift randomly, but more like a pendulum, swinging away and then returning to the target. Wait until the sight has swung away and is ready to come back (at which point the sight is almost stationary) and then quickly move the sight on target and fire.

Personally I prefer using the sniper scope and constantly going in and out of zoom to check my situation, because even with ACOG you're going to get homed in on eventually so it pays to learn to never sit still and to take the occasional hiding break so people don't camp you until your head pops up.

There are certain weapons that the ACOG works well with,
such as the LMG's, or a high accuracy gun like the M4/M16.

It makes ZERO sense to equip a sniper scope with it, but I DID try it out.
          Really sucks for a sniper.

Other than that, possibly the M14 could benefit, and I've used it with
decent success. M14 is MUCH better than the M21, so you wind up with
a semi sniper rifle with the ACOG.

ACOG stinks on the sniper rifle. Tried it for a short time and went right back to the standard issue.

Personally I much prefer the red dot to the ACOG. The red dot gives you full field of view giving much better Situational Awareness. I'd rather give up the slight magnification of the ACOG for the increased field of vision.

It make no sense at all to use anything but the default scope on the sniper rifle. IMHO.

                +1

I find it very rare (given the size of most COD4 maps) that I ever need magnification to see my target. Of course, I'm usually near the front line, so finding enemies to shoot is rarely and issue

I do find it funny when I see people running around with ACOG-equipped SMGs. Even funnier watching them try to use it and not lose their target due to recoil

we're all forgetting it's a lot easier to aim at people closing in. Let's say someone charges and comes very close, you have a chance of just aiming quick and shooting, unlike the sniper scope.

Overall I'd use the sniper scope, but people that do use it have gotten their asses saved by using the ACOG or whatever scope

One of the other servers I have played on removed the Spray-n-Pray ability by removing the crosshairs from the screen. If you are the kind that shoot from the hip, then you can't see where you're aiming. There is a quick fix for that though, putting a dot on your monitor screen.

Also, another gripe I have with a sniper weapon, is that you RARELY hit anything while shooting from the hip. If you are 10 feet away from a person there is NO WAY I would miss you with a sniper rifle while shooting from the hip. I think this is much BS that needs to be considered for modification.

Hardcore mode removes the crosshairs, hud, and UAV (except) when the UAV is actually up.

I have noticed the same thing about the Sniper rifle.
Missing them while shooting from the hip and they are 5 meters away.

For those who like to lay back away from the front chargers,
                        (YOU know who you are)
The ACOG is tailor made for their style of play with everything
BUT the Sniper guns, SMG's, and Shotty's.

Why would you put an ACOG on a p90. A short-medium range
screamer. Yet I've seen people equip it.

Supposedly adding an ACOG on a weapon helps raise the range, but still, one on a P90? I have seen it also and want to smack the person who uses it.

Actully the acog on the barrett makes an exellent door/corner watcher.Thats what i like to do somtime on a choke point to small or close for a reg scope.Anytime someone comes around the corner-boom!
