    Stealth!

I have been trying out silenced weapons for a few days, and I love it! I love to start shooting someone and they can't tell where you are shooting from!

Last night I took it to the next step and went full stealth: Silenced weapon, UAV Jammer and Dead Silence. Wow! YOu can run up behind someone, and they never hear you coming, even when using sprint!

I had no clue how to even set about enabling perks, but decided I simply had to use them, as I was getting wiped out by guys that were clearly superior to me in every way. So for now I'm undecided on them, but need some clarification.
    1) Can you trade one perk for another, or are you hard and fast bound to whatever perk you first select ?
    2) Are you allowed two perks max per custom profile ?

This game frustrates me like nothing I've played lately .. I love it when I can at least get on a roll, like a 1:1 KD (yea, thats a roll for me)m but .. ughhh, I just need to play it more.

        3 Perks.
        Perk 1
        Perk 2
        Perk 3

Each Perk has different options available only to that Perk.

After a round, you have a very limited amount of time to change one of
your setups, i.e. change weapons or perk options.

Sometimes it is easier to leave the game and re-option whatever you
want. If I am experimenting with different guns and perks, and a
setup just Doesn't work out, I'll leave the game and come back after
I've tinkered with it. Less stressful that way.

Most everyone has all their setups maxed out, and basically plug and play.
Some perks are more useful than others. Why would you equip a sniper
rifle and iron lungs on Vacant? (Although i've had some snipers kick my
tail, it usually is a albatross on, say, Vacant.)

The best bet is to set each custom class before you start. That way you dont rush and can make sure its right. Set each custom class based on a different map or style of play.

          ex
1: sniper set perks that would be usefull to this kit only and for sniping maps
          2) shotgun set perks for close combat
          2) silenced weapons set perks to make sure your undetected
          4) low- med range weapon
          5) whatever you play most

You get the point. That way not matter what map is on you have a loadout ready. Trying to snipe on shipment probably wont be much fun. So having 5 kits with the same weapons just with different perks doesnt work well. Its best to try and cover the basis before you join.

also keep in mind what gametype you will be playing. This might cause you to change some stuff. Like headquaters you might wanna use extreme conditioning to sprint to sprint to the target faster, but in tdm this is pretty useless.

Thanks for the advice guys .. I found a site listing all of the perks so I'm reading carefully what each one does for me. So far, I think I'm leaning towards the following (which fits my Rambo style).

            1) Juggernaut (easy choice for firefights)
            2) Overkill (yea, I want an RPG for when it gets hairy)
            3) Steady Aim (the older I get, the harder it is to aim).

That would be Custom 1 that I'd use 80% of the time I'm guessing.

But Dead made a good point ... test different ones to see what they do. I've been getting easily killed by not knowing what to expect .. enemy UAV en route .. don't walk out in the street and LOOK for it, WT !! ... duh ...

I used Juggernaut quite a lot in the past 2-3 weeks trying to get the "Invincible" challenge (got it yesterday, woot!), and found out that it really doesn't help much.

At this stage in the evolution of online play, guys are putting so many bullets into you to make sure you stay dead that you've only got a split second of extra life to try to take them out first, and against high rate of fire weapons like a P90 with stopping power or semi/full auto with double tap, it's almost useless. Nades still kill you dead if you're too close, and it may let you survive a glancing blow from the first or second airstrike drop, but the third one is going to take out your hurting self unless you're lucky enough to have a hiding spot very close.

Stopping power seems like a better bet for "general" use of Perk 2 in my experience. I played around with Aquataine's Noob Tubery class with the Overkill perk, and didn't like it much.

Speaking of perks, does ANYONE use eavesdrop? How enormously useless is that one? Guys don't talk or coordinate as much in this game as in ONS or even TF2, and in competitive play everyone is going off in-game VOIP to vent or TS anyway. What a gigantic waste of a level 3 perk.

              -Rand

P.S. WT---RPGs are a level 1 perk, and don't need (or even use) Overkill. Overkill and Juggernaut are both level 2 perks.

                It is all personal taste.

Carbon likes jagernaut on his shotty, but I found that i died just as fast.
extra dmage, meant extra damage to ME.. lol

juggernaut isnt bad if your not getting shot a lot. It only allows you to live a little bit more. Some could argue it helps you stay alive which could keep streaks going.
personally i dont use it much anymore.... There is just better options i think.

extra damage: now thats useful. Overkill is nice but if you die alot you probably wont run out of ammo or need to change to that second weapon. You will die before you deplete your 1st weapon. Then increased bullet damage is better option for the number 2 perk. Since there is a big difference in a weapon with increased damage vs a weapon without.

Also uav jammer and dead silence make a good combo perk if your trying to sneak around the map. This gets better when you have better weapons like p-90.

easedrop is probably the most worthless perk in game. The rest all can play a role depending on how they are used and what combos you use them with. Like extreme conditioning is fun with the p-90 and dead silence and uav jammer. You can cross the map in no time and sneak up on the enemy team and really cause havoc.

Yeah, COD4 TDM != UT2k4 ONS when it comes to teamwork and strategy, to put it mildly.

It's even more useless in the 360 version. I already stay in a private voicechat with a friends to avoid hearing the cursing, racist children on my team, I certainly don't want to be able to hear the other team.

Yep, a quick, silent, stealthy enemy is the worst enemy to have. You never know where he's at.

Every now and then when I enter the room full of snipers and sprayers, instead of starting my usual square dancing ritual with my knife, I'll squat down and scooch right up next to one of them and JUST the instant they go to reload.. the quick sound of metal hitting bone ...it is too late. Then the ritualized square dance begins.

P.S. It REALLY helps if you have a good sound setup and headphones. You can hear someone sneaking a LOT better ... even if they have the Deadsilence perk.

That's the ONLY kit I use it with though. Rand is right that there are better options. When you're using the shotty, your greatest enemy is NOT the guy you are trying to kill, but distance. Anything that can help you beat that is a welcome addition, but mainly because the shotty is already an incredibly lethal tool in CQC. Juggernaut just gives you that little bit extra to keep you going when you square off against someone and start the dance of death

Double tap or Stopping power are much better overall perks, and UAV Jammer is great when there isn't an enemy every 5 feet (ie lower population servers or bigger maps).

I still hold that Overkill is one of the most useless skills though, except for unique cases such as Aqua's Noob Tube setup. Extra guns are almost always available, especially when Cain's is full and rockin. Just pop a few OpFor and look down

I like Overkill with the shottie. It allows me to use the shottie for up close and personal and another gun, like the P90 for longer distances.
